John Michael Sikes was born Mar. 8, 1824 in Camden Co. NC.
Married Martha Jane Snow on Feb. 5, 1848 in Rhea Co., TN and died on Jan. 29, 193. He is buried at Knob Lick, St. Francois Co., MO. He is the son of Dempsey Sykes and Charlotte Chamberlain who are my great-great grandparents.

There is a wealth of Sikes/Sykes descendents in Missouri and Tennesee and they have an annual reunion each year.

Martha Snow's brother, Pleasant Snow, married John's sister Nancy. There is a history book for Rhea County, TN (which is where Dempsey Sykes is buried) that gives information about the Snow and Sykes families.

I also have been in touch with another descendent of the John Sikes/Martha Snow line.

Let me know if I can help.

Looking for Mary Sikes who married James Taylor about 1731. They moved to Tenn to raise stock. Mary & James are burried around Knoxville, Tenn. She lived to be 75 and James 80.
The Taylor family moved to around Pontotoc Co. Miss.

Sorry, I can't help. The fartherest back I can trace my line at the moment is to 1795 to the birth of Dempsey Sykes; although there is some record of his father being born around 1770. I'll keep an eye out for your Mary, though.

Hi! I believe we are distant relatives. My grandfather, Charles E. Sikes, I believe is George Sike's cousin. I will have to get out my family tree that my grandpa made me becuase I know Martha Snow is on there and he told me she was cherokee. My grandfather was Charles Edward Sikes and his parents were Charles and Bessie Sikes. My grandfather also had a sister, Wilma Sikes. We all live in Michigan but my great grandma, Bessie is buried back in Missouri, not sure about my great grandfather, Charles. I will find the family tree tonight and let you know for sure how my grandpa is related to George.

You are most likely correct about our Sikes being related. I have a George W. Sikes, born 1875 in MO, son of John R. Sykes (b.NC) & Martha Jane Snow. John is the son of Dempsey Monroe Sykes and Charlotte Chamberlain. The others you mention are not in my data base and I would be happy to have info on them. I would like to communicate more if you will send an email to me at sikesel@gmail.com as soon as possible as I will be heading on a trip next Wed. to IN and VA & will be gone until near the end of Sept.

Hi. The family tree that my Grandpa Sikes drew for me lists:

John sikes (born 1824, died 1913) married to Martha Snow. Looks like they had a child, Marion S. Sikes (born about 1855 and died December 11, 1927) and married Minnie Lee Moyer. Marion S. Sikes and Minne had a son, Charles M. Sikes (my great grandfather) and he married Bessie A. Plummer (my great grandmother)they had 2 children, Charles Edward Sikes (my grandpa (born Jan. 15, 1924 and died May 1999) and Wilma Sikes
