My ancestors were fisherfolk from Sicily whose name was anglicanized to "Segree" on the Panhandle of Florida in the 1850's. It's pronounced See-gree, and and the family history notes other anglicanized spellings in the U.S. are "Segari" +"Sigari" and "Zigari." They came in through the Port of New Orleans.
I think it's possible that See-gree is actually Sicari. I note that there are many Sicaris from Ustica, Palermo, who arrived at the Port of New Orleans around that time.
Any thoughts? Is it possible or am I way off?
