STRUTHERS - Georgeann Houck, 70, a lifelong resident of Struthers, Ohio died early Sunday morning, May 19, 2013, at the Hospice House, Poland, Ohio.

Georgeann was born Aug. 30, 1942, in Youngstown, Ohio a daughter of the late George and Velma Allshouse Sicafuse.

A 1960 graduate of Struthers High School, Georgeann earned her Bachelor of Art Degree from Youngstown University in 1965. She was employed by the Mahoning County Humane Society prior to opening her own Daycare Service “Bear Hugs” in 1988.

In 2006, she received the NAEYC Accreditation Award, the highest national accreditation award given to early childhood education and childcare standards.
In 2007, Georgeann was also awarded the Quality Enhancement Grant and Professional Development Grant through the Raymond John Wean Foundation and the Quality Enhancement Project for her years of dedication and hard work.

An active and loyal member of the former Struthers Presbyterian Church, now known as Struthers Parkside Church, Georgeann served as Deacon, Elder, and Superintendent of the Sunday school classes.
Georgeann was a member of the Trumbull and Mahoning County Early Childhood Education Association.

Georgeann leaves her husband, Gary Houck, whom she married June 25, 1966; one daughter, Lynn Sorokach of Struthers, OH; one son, Eric Houck of Alpharetta, Ga.; two brothers, Don (Heidi) Sicafuse of Struthers and Ron (Billie) Sicafuse of Poland, Ohio; sister, Audrey (Warren) Morrison of Uniontown; and three grandchildren, Alaura, Leah Bella, and Donovan.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Struthers Parkside Church, where family and friends will be received from 9 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service.

Interment will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Boardman, Ohio.
