WORKED AS A MECHANIC FOR U.S. POSTAL SERVICE

Charles Shychuk Jr., 80, 4114 Schaper Ave., died Wednesday, June 26, 2002, at Beverly Healthcare-Erie.

He was born Nov. 14, 1921, in West Newton, son of the late Charles and Catherine Woryks Shychuk, He formerly lived at 1028 W. 37th St.

He worked as a mechanic for American Motor Sales, Shade's Auto Sales and the U.S. Postal Service. He also worked as a guard for Urick Foundry.

He served in the U.S. Army and attained the rank of first sergeant.

He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Byzantine Rite Catholic Church. He enjoyed fishing and gardening.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Lucobitv, Helen Mihalsky and Anna Shychuk; and two brothers, Stanley and Nicholas Shychuk.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Virginia Lucas Shychuk; a daughter, Sharon "Sherry" Hawley and her husband, Barry, of Girard; two sons, Mark Shychuk and his wife, Susan, of Pageland, S.C., and Charles Shychuk of Girard; two sisters, Julia Lucas and Dorothy Kopko; two brothers, Paul and Andrew Shychuk; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Francis V. Kloecker Funeral Home, 2502 Sassafras St. A service will be held there Monday at 9:30 a.m., followed by Mass at 10 a.m. at SS. Peter and Paul Byzantine Rite Catholic Church, officiated by the Rev. Julius Kubinyi.

Burial will be at Erie Cemetery.
