I've been going back over the rootsweb posts and came across your message. John Shumate is my 3rd great grandfather through Nancy Shumate Reed. John Shumate was married only once and that was to Sarah Sally Milbourn. Their son Parkenson is an heir to Sarah Sally's brother's estate which could only happen if he was her son. I have other documentation also.

I am still looking for any little piece of provable information about the parents of Ballus SHUMATE, b 1822 in VA. 1840 Census - possibly Warren County, VA. 1850 Census - Henry County, VA, with Loisa 25, Elizabeth Bowes or Bowls 30, Mary J B Shoemate 5, Samuel Shoemate 2. 1860 Census - Henry County, Balas 39, Louisa 34, Mary 13, Saml 11, Chas 8. 1870 Census - Carroll County, VA, Baily 50, Louisa 47, Lucy 8. 1880 Census - Carroll County, VA, Ballus 57, Luiza 55. Ballus married Loiusa Holloway 2 May 1845, Franklin County, VA. In the 1880 Farm Schedule Ballus is listed in Carroll County just above Samuel, his son. Louisa lives with Mary J and Jas A Edwards in Hendricks County, IN. In 1910 Census Eliza (Louisa) lives with her daughter Lucy Smith in Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana.

Hello, I am new to this and I'm trying to figure out more about my ancestry. My fathers name is Jeffery Shumate. My uncles are Daniel and Micheal. My grandfather is Daniel as well. My grandfather was stationed in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. So far this is about all I know haha. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My grandmother was Libby Vaughn Shumate, and her grandfather was Daniel Harrison Shumate. Libby's father was Thomas Allen Shumate who was married to Nora Abbot. I have the death notice from the papers when Selena Shumate died..(Daniel's wife) Actually, Daniel was in the 54th regiment of the Kentucky Regiment for the North....I have more info on Daniel and his geneology. go on my wall of ancestry my name is shirley wertman.

Hi Patty, I knew Joe Mac. He and I have 4 connections.

His son, Joe Mac Shumate, Jr. lives in Denham Springs, LA. He is a Caption and is the Chief Criminal Deputy at Denham Springs City Police. Joe also had a daughter, Janice. I don't know where she lives. Do you have a copy of Joe's obituary?

Nellie's maiden name was Murray. Joe told me your mother's name was Joan. He only gave me the year 1954 for her birth.

I know that replying to a post that is a decade old is a long shot, but I'm trying to find out some information about my mother.

All the research I've done has pointed me to a man named Joe Mac Shumate (1921-2000).

My grandmother Nellie Marie Shumate (I don't know her maiden name) was married to a Joe Shumate in the early 1950's. They lived in Atlanta, GA.

From what I understand, during their marriage they adopted a baby (my mother), Jo Ann Shumate.

Looking for additional information from anyone that may be able to help.

Hey..so glad to hear from you. Have tried to contact your Dad in Paris, but no luck. Just recently made contact with dau in law of your Aunt Betty Kay, and was thrilled to find she is doing well. I have wanted to call and talk with her, but have not been well for months, and other issues. Need to do that soon...I was able to visit with Rose Carol & Aunt Carrie before they passed, that was bittersweet. But Aunt Carrrie did give me a clue that led to our finding where Oney died and is buried. It was not easy, and still there is no real headstone. Aunt Nannie passed a year before my mother Ada, and then their sister Edith Blanton passed a month after Momma. Aunt Lorena was the sweetest, most loving person. They are all missed. COLUMBUS: Michael Alan Shumate, It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Mike, who was 58 years old.

Mike grew up in Luray, Ohio (Licking County) and attended Lakewood High School, Hebron, Ohio
He then moved to Sunny California where he lived for several years and opened a recording studio.
He also drove a truck up and down the West Coast, which he loved to do.
An unfortunate accident in 1983 left him paralyzed and wheelchair bound for the rest of his life.
He spent 2 years in rehabilitation and then moved to Columbus where he attended The Ohio State University and graduated with a Masters Degree in Political Science.
He recently retired from Nationwide Insurance where he was a claims representative.

Mike loved to sing, especially The Beatles.
He became very proficient in playing the Harmonica and was a joy to everyone.
Amazingly to everyone Mike bought a van and drove himself around to work and other activities as he was driven to be as independent as possible.
Mike's other passion included his video blog on Youtube (shortshu), which were brash, funny and creative.

Mike will be missed by all.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Boden Shumate and Phyllis Maxine Dearing; he was also preceded in death by an older brother David Lee Shumate.

His living relatives include John and Jamie Shumate of Newark, Ohio, Robert Steven and Pamela Shumate of Cartersville, Georgia, Eric and Jae Shumate of Georgia, Bryant and Casey Shumate of Newark, Ohio, Jasmine and James Klusty of West Lafayette, Ohio, Amber and Justin Hue of Cincinnati, Ohio, Rachel and Justin Devoll of Yellville, Arkansas, Derick Shumate of Heath, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

I have a Cora Jean Shumate b. 1881 her father was James William or he went by the name of J.W. and he was married to Ardilla Mowery from Ohio. James was from Ky.

Hi. I am also a relative of yours. My dads uncle is Clifford and I met and spoke with Ms. Lorena Wagoner before her passing. I still have a letter she sent me with the family tree started on it. If you would like I can give you what info I have about them. My dads name is William Carl Jones. My grandpa married Nancy myrtle Shoemate. I know my grandmothers maiden name was Sears. They all lived in Paris, bourbon, Carlisle or Nicholas counties. I remember my dad talking about Oney and have him listed in my records as well.My name is Billie A. Jones Warner.

John Shumate was my great-grandfather and was married to Helen Wigginton. John's parents were Armstead Shumate and Rebecca Mingus. John lived most of his life on a farm near Seymour, MO. He and my great-grandmother Helen eventually moved off the farm and my grandparents, Jason and Laura Newton Shumate lived on the farm until my grandfather's death. John and Helen opened a store in Seymour where they lived until John's death. I did not know John but I do remember my Great-Grandmother Helen.

I'm trying to find out if there is any evidence showing that Lafayette F. (Lee Fate) Shumate / Shomate may have been the son of Martin Williams (b.1814) and Jane M. Griffith (b.1826). Lafayette is my 3rd great grandfather. I've seen other posts saying that Lafayette's original last name may have been Williams, and the names of Martin and Jane popped up as possible parental connections on my Ancestry.com account. I haven't seen any evidence to definitively tie their son, Lafayette Williams, to Mr. Shumate.

This family started out in Georgia and wound up in Kemper, MS.

William S M Shumate death?

I'm researching the descendants of Joseph Dela Shumate and his wife Mary Amelia. Does anyone know the fate of William S M Shumate, born about 1837. He shows up with the rest of the family in the 1850 Census at Lafayette , Walker Co. ,
Georgia, but I lose track of him after that. I wonder if he served in the Confederate military, possibly losing his life in the conflict?

Thanks also for the correction about Joseph's wife. I knew that. I just had my mind on Mary Amelia from research I'm doing that involves Mary Amelia, the granddaughter. I am a cousin to this Shumate line via the Montgomery's.

I've come up with a Civil War fatality that might be William S. M. Shumate. I found a William M. Shumate, private in Co. D, 4th Regiment Texas Infantry, who died May 6, 1864 in the Battle of the Wilderness in Virginia. Joseph had another son, Christopher Columbus, that had moved to Texas in the early 1850's. When Joseph's wife Amelia died in 1857, if I remember correctly, some say that Joseph moved to Texas. A Texas connection would be quite plausible. Can anyone come up with further evidence as to whether or not the soldier in question was Joseph's son?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I was looking for any information about Grandma (Ila Mae Shumate Ferry) and found your inquiry.My Mother is Betty Jo Ferry,older sister of the triplets Beverly Jean, Theresa Ann, Hubert. They are four of the seven children my Grandma had. The others are Ronny, Linda, and Erlene. My mother died in 2005, Aunt Erlene died just before then. As far as I know Aunt Linda and the triplets are still alive. I wouldn't venture a guess about Uncle Ronny. I have lived away from the family for 37 years. I have a picture of you and your siblings. You have a beautiful smile just like your mother. I am sorry I can not help

Dear Sir (Madam);

I have wanted to find out more about members of my own family, and the unidentified photo of Mr Webb Shumate piqued my interest. My maternal grandmothers name was Lucy Shumate, and her two sisters were Minnie and Lissie. My grandma lived in Galloway, Missouri, later moving to Lebanon missouri where she lived the rest of her life. My maternal grandma had a brother, my great uncle John Shumate.
Mmy mom's maiden name was Jones, she was the daughter of RRoy Herbert Jones. I'd be interested to know the family connection between my grandma and the Shumate family.
