Re: Descendants of Reuben and Susannah Shores, Surry Co., NC

Hi my wife is related to the Shores through Francis Elizabeth Shores (1862) from Missouri. Her father was Reuben Shores. I have been working on this line and I think that it is most probable that her father was Reuben Shores born in Wayne Co. Il. in 1836. He was in Ark. Greene Co. in 1860 with his brother John. He was listed as being 14 but when he enlisted in the Civil War in 1862 he was 26 so his age in 1860 was 24. He didn't stay in the army long before he deserted and then he and his brother John joined the Union Army in White Co. Il. He then returned to Missouri and lived there a few years before divorcing and moved back to Illinois and married Susan Graves. His daughter from his first marriage Francis Elizabeth Shores married Sam Cazort from Equality, Gallatin, Illinois. This is the County that Frank moved to. Then Francis Elizabeth Shores lived in Franklin Co. Il. where Frank Shores moved to.

Alexander Shores

I am looking for information on Alexander Shores who was born on 12/18/1818 in Dooly County, Georgia and he died on 3/25/1899 in Ivey, Wilkinson County, Georgia and was buried in the Hickman Family Cemetery in Perkins, Jenkins County, Georgia). He had a brother by the name of Jim Shores (this info was found in a Family Bible). The information that I presently have on Alexander says he was the son of Planner Shores . I have been unable to connect Alexander Shores to Planner Shores having a son by this name. (It maybe the 10 year age difference between them). The last son that Planner Shores had was my GG Grandfather William Riley Shores, Sr. who was born on 7/14/1808 in Hancock County, Ga. and he died on 12/1887 in Elmore County, Alabama. All of Planner Shores children were either born in Putnam County or Hancock County, Georgia. If anyone has any information that will help me, please let me know. Thanks.

James do you have any connection from your Reuben Shores to Samuel Shores born about 1755 in Sussex County NJ? I found reference to a old deed where the Old Shores place in that area was sold 1790 to a Chamberlain. I found an older son born in Canoe Brook but cannot link this family to another Shores of that era.

Children from his first marrige (according to 1850 Wayne Co., IL census) & this according to Greene Co., ARK 1860 census, Bradshaw Twp, Chalk Bluff p. 673 = "A" - f - b. 1844 IL; Elizabeth - f - b. 1847 IL; a Ruben b. 1846 IL living with them (not sure who he is but he is not John's)

She remarried Daniel Wheeler who d.1905 Mill Shoals, White Co., IL

Alas, I have no info on Sarah except she was b. 1825 in KY

Would like to know more about her - and so would you, I gather!

Reuben - no info...b. 1790 in TN and died in Wayne Co.Had following children: John, Levi, Reuben, "E", Elizabeth.

I descend from Hiram, possibly a brother or cousin of Reuben.

My name is Gloria Shores Allred. I have a copy of the 1930 census of Caddo County, Louisanna .
The names listed as far as I can make out are the following names:
L.A. Shores-Age 26
Mattie Shores-Age 24
Phil Shores-Age 3
Maurice Shores-Age 1
This is the only census I have. I do not have the ones for 1900, 1910, & 1920.
Can you tell me who these people are? I am interested in the name of Phil Shores. I do not have any information on this family. Please let me hear from you. Thanks.

I don't know much yet on David Shores but I am in probate and John W Stum is guardian of the children of Benjamin Stallings and Rachel. It says that Nancy and Adeline Stallings are living with their mother Rachel Shores. You should check probate in White County on David.

I have information on all of them except their daughter Etta b ca 1890 in Arkansas. The family was last found in 1900 Census in Banner, Hurricane Townships in Arkansas. Have information on Clarence Stanley Shores b: 11 Feb. 1859 in Oquawka, Henderson County, Illinois. He married Mary Elizabeth Van Kirk in Warren County, Illinois in 1884. They later moved to Utica, Seward County, Nebraska where he ran a livery stable/blacksmith shop. They are both buried in the Utica Cememtery. They had 6 children, some of which went to Colorado, and then back to Goodland, Kansas. Very interesting story. I have the parents of Clarence S. Shores as George Shores and Caroline Pence. Would you mind sharing more details about how you discovered the Shores family origins? Last I heard we didn't know exactly where Hillaire Shores came from, but just that he was Huguenot, probably lived in Amsterdam before emigrating to America around 1700, and that at least one known Rousseau (the philosopher, Jean-Jacques Rousseau) lived in Switzerland, but not near Basel.

I have traced my Shores lineage back to Uziah Shores (1808-1888 - most likely born in Maryland or Virginia) m. Rachel Bevard; their son Johnathon Martin Shores (1839-1920) m. Mary Dewey; their son George A Shores (1869-1941) m. Grace Horner -- my great grandparents. Don't we all wonder about that??? I descend from Hiram, Wayne Co, IL - and know that Reuben appeared there, lived close to Hiram, also William and Levi..all these names appear in NC Reuben family, but our DNA proves that Hiram does not relate..HUH????

Will be happy to exchange info with you. I have gobs of it.

Question...do you know any Shores (with that last name) descendants from your Reuben who would be willing to take the DNA test??

I saw your post regarding the Shores of North Carolina. My great-grandfather was Dr. Giles Shores D.O.B.: Feb. 1855, born in North Carolina. I'm having trouble finding his parents and after reading your post, I'm wondering if there is a link...? Giles Shores had a brother named John Shores born in 1851 in North Carolina. Emoline Shores is listed as their mother but very little information is coming up with her name. I appreciate your input.

Hi Dustin,

My grandfather is James Henry Shores. I don't know any direct connection with the Shores family being part native American but that doesn't mean that there weren't inter-marriages. The original family was from Muttenz, Switzerland close to the city of Basel. I don't know of any German connection but in that part of Switzerland, German is the prominent language as opposed to French or Italian. If you learn more, please keep us posted.

I also have a Shores & Horton connection. Aaron Shores (2 Jun 1806 Ontario Co., New York — 23 Sep 1893 Rockton, Winnebago, Illinois) married Jane Horton (18 Mar 1811 Sheshequin, Bradford, Pennsylvania — 24 Sept 1873 Rockton, Winnebago, Illinois) in 1826.

Aaron's father, William Shores, the son of Samuel Shores and Polly Stephens, is mentioned in the book.

I'm still out here working on trees. My David SHORES 1799 - 1856 is still out in limbo too. He named his first born son William Moses SHORES 1821 - 1894. I know the Moses name was after his mother's uncle on her mom's side.

It has been sometime since I have been in touch with you.
I am Gloria Shores Allred. I am a descendant of Planner Shores. He was my GGG Grandfather. I recently read in a book where a Phil Shores and a Lemuel Alexander Shores were mentioned living in Vivian, Caddo County, LA. I know that Lemuel Alaxander Shores was born in Georgia and that all of his children were born in Caddo County, La. I saw where there was an Alexander Shores whose father was Planner Shores and that he had a son by the name of Lemuel Alexander Shores. Do you have any information about this being true? If so, would you please let me hear from you concerning this matter.

I was in the process of reading The Duck Commander Book called: Happy, Happy, Happy by Phil Alexander Robertson. In his book he said he got his first name from his granny's first cousin Phil Shores and he got his middle name (Alexander) from his Great Grandfather Lemuel Alexander Shores. At that time they lived in Vivian,Caddo County, Louisianna. The information is on page 25 in the book. He also said his Great Aunt was Willie Mae Irvins. Their is a Lemuel Alexander Shores that married a Guffie Ivins(could this be mispelled with the r left out?)I have no idea how the Robertson's came into the picture. Do you know anything about these people and if they are connected to Planner Shores in any way? If you do would you please let me know? Thanks, Gloria Shores Allred.

My maternal great grandparents were Ben Shores and Goldie Freeman Shores. I do not have a lot of information on them but what kind of info are you looking for?

Giles "Doc" Shores and Nancy "Granny" (Mullin) Shores are my great-grandparents. I'm the granddaughter to their son, Ray Vaughn Shores.

I'm looking for info on the children of James Sr. My grandfather was Lewis Shores b.1883 in Fulton County Ill. His mother ? died while he was young and he was raised by his grandmother Mary ,husband John killed Kennesaw Mtn in 1865. John's son was I believe William S. Shores, my grandfathers' dad. My problem is that my grandfather was very secretive about his life with my grandmother and I don't know his mother or his first wife. My grandmother was his second wife and they married in 1912. Any help?
