I am very late to see this thread and your question. Did you find anything on Cah Tah La Tah and her children? I am researching them also. Cah Tah La Tah was not Shoemake's 2nd wife, she was the 1st wife. She had one daughter (not Shoemake's daughter) named Nancy who I am descended from. Her daughter with Shoemake was Nee ku tee hee. She was the only child they had together that I know of. Anything you could share would be appreciated. I would share everything I have also. Thank you.

email me at auntpooh54@gmail.com

Looking for parents of Gillie and Dover Outlaw. Gillie ann married my grandfather, John B. Gainey. When was her death and where? His second wife was Lizzie Mandy Jackson. They were married in 1902. Lizzie Jackson Gainey had brother that served time for the killing of Cassie Boan. Would like to know more about this story. I think there is also a Ben Jackson and a Harvey Jackson.

Charlotte Elizabeth Shoemake/Shumake/Shumate

I have a Shumake genealogy problem I was hoping you could help me with.

My line is maternal line is as follows: My mother is Charlotte Elizabeth Shafer born August 15, 1955.

Charlotte's paternal line is where Shumake comes in.

Charlotte's grandfather is Alvie Huston Shafer Jr. B. 22 May 1895 in Alabama and died Feb 1966 in Stone Co, Arkansas. Alvie was married to Maggie Lexie Throneberry.

Maggie Lexie Throneberry was born 21 Mar 1899 in Bedford Co, TN and died 1963 in Arkansas.

Maggie's parents were George Washington Throneberry and Charlotte Elizabeth "Lizzie" Shumake. Charlotte was born 05 Oct 1872 in Bedford Co, TN and died 30 Oct 1957 in Huntsville, Madison, AL.

She is buried in Maple Hill Cemetery with the surname Grubbs (a second marriage in her 70s). It is believed that Charlotte's father was Sampson Shumake who was born 1827 in TN and died 15 May 1874 in TN.

His date of death is such that he and Charlotte would have never been on a census together. I believe Sampson's father to be John Fletcher Shumake who was born in 1795 (father of Morris Kane Shumake).

The only census record where I find her not married was the United States Federal Census for 1880 which shows her with a brother F Shoemake as head and the mother listed as widowed. I believe this brother to be William Fletcher Shumake (son of Sampson D. Shumake). I have dug through The Shuemake Journal website for countless hours and still cannot figure this line out. Do you have anything you might be able to add to what I have?

Kindest Regards,
Angela

Hi,
My wife is a Shoemake. Your Jesse was born in 1899 and was married to Velma Mowery. He was the son of Cornelius Shoemake and Ida Mae Simpson. We are stuck trying to find out much about Cornelius' father Jesse, who was apparently from Scotland (Cornelius describes him as such in later census listings). Oddly enough, there is another Jesse Shoemake in Iowa at the same time who is from Indiana and who also has a son named Cornelius. His wife is also Elizabeth. My wife's tree is Richards2013.

I know this is a long shot but I am looking for information on Lucinda Shoemake Lambert. She was born abt. 1832. She lived in Iredell co. NC in 1850 and was married to Theophilus Lambert. In 1860 they are listed in Ashe co. NC. I was wondering if anyone knew who her parents were and had any other information about her. I think her husband died during the civil war time, but I don't know if he was a vet.

Hi carol! Long time since we've talked...haven't found anything new lately on the trail to George Washington Shoemake's history. Do you have any new information? George Washington Shoemake, my greatgrandfather, married Mary Jane Rippetoe in Gainesville,TX, On Oct. 2, 1888...they "parted" in 1889. My grandfather Henry Sherran Shoemake was born in Jimtown in The Chickasaw Nation in Dec. of 1889. George asked Mary Jane to help "care for his girls"...I presume one of them was your Fannie.

Hope to hear from you again and from any other Shoemakes who might have info about George Washinton Shoemake.

J.B.
I have an Alley Shoemake in my family tree that is a big question. It seems my Alley Shoemake was born about 1876 and came to Byrdstown Tennessee Nov. 6, 1940 to sign a affidavit as a witness to a live birth for Oakley Hensley so Oakley could get a birth record from the state of Tenn. Oakley Hensley was the son of Mary Shoemake born in Overton Co. Tennessee, and John Hensley born in Pickett Co. Tennessee.
It was said that Alley was either a brother or uncle to Mary Shoemake and these Shoemake's had lived in AL. and had very strong ties with the Cherokee Indians. Do you know if your Alphonso was ever called Alley and if he had a Mary Shoemake in his family tree?
Sarah, I am looking for info on my great-grandfather, ANDREW JACK SHOEMAKER. He had changed his name from Shoemake/Shumock. He was Cherokee and married my great-grandmother, FRANCES FANNIE EUDORA RIPPY in Hopkins County, Texas in October 1886. This is not far from Gainesville and I thought he may be related to George Washington Shoemake. Do you have ANY info on the siblings of George? Andrew and Fannie had four kids, WILLIAM ELMER NOAH, JOHN BASCOM, ERA ANDREW, and AMY MELISSA. I figure that at least Elmer's names were from some kin folks of his, since I can't find any Noahs or Elmers in the Rippy line. Andrew left and possibly went to Oklahoma and remarried.

Connie,

I know next-to-nothing about these people! The date is wrong for your Alley to be my Alphonso. Alphonso was born in Jan. 1900 and died Sept. 1961. He was my husband's father and my very young husband died at age 26 in 1962, less than a year after his dad. It is true that the family says the Shoemakes were Indian, and more than likely they're related. I just can't get a grasp on who's related to whom and where the missing link is. Alphonso's father was Calvin Lawrence. Is he in your list?
Re: John A. Shoemake

In the Cherokee citizenship papers of William Henderson Shoemake, a grandson of Annie, he says he *thought* her maiden name might be Bone, but wasn't sure, but he said that John A. Shoemake was his father (Annie's son and only child) but that John Shoemake (Annie's husband) was his STEP-grandfather. He did not know who the real father of John A. Shoemake was. These facts seem to get overlooked and some researchers are claiming that Annie's maiden name was BONE. However, I have never seen any proof for this claim and suspect it might have come from a mis-reading of some of the Cherokee citizenship claim papers. More likely Annie is the daughter of a white man named Daniel THORN and a Cherokee woman called Caty ParchCorn, but research to prove this continues. Hopefully, I'll have my Shoemake file updated in the next few weeks and post in on my home page to share with others regarding what I've found so far.

There is a great deal of information about this Shoemake family online, but all of it should be verified with primary and good secondary sources as there are are many discrepancies and much to explore on this pedigree.
