Benjamin Shockley, listed on the 1930 census as 30, married to Minnie, 21, children Alleen, 4,and Alvin, 5, in Texas. I'm looking for any information about this line of Shockleys. Alvin is my father. Ben's father is listed as from Georgia but I don't have his name. Ben's mother is listed as from Texas, don't have her name either. Any help is welcome!

Kathy: On the same page of the 1930 census that you reference, in addition to Benjamin F. Shockley and his family, there are 3 other heads of Shockley households, Jesse W., Perry S., and Columbus H. They are close in age, all born in Texas and all list father's birthplace as Georgia and mother's as Texas. Now go back one page in the census and you'll see Newt P. Shockley and family living next to Benjamin F. Newt is 63, born in Georgia, and his wife was born in Texas. Common for families members to have nearby or adjoining farms.

Newton is listed in the 1870 (age 4) and the 1880 (age 14) census as a son of Benjamin F. and Rhody Shockley, living in Paulding County, Georgia.

There is a fairly common pattern in this family of naming the eldest son for the paternal grandfather. I think we've just found two more generations of your family!

and Burnetty Roberts b. Apr 1880 TX

They married in 1890 in Mart, McLennan Co., TX.
I have no further info on Burnetty Roberts.

Newton was the son of Benjamin Franklin Shockley b. May 1820 GA and Rhoda Bethenia Toney b. Jun 1831. They married 1849 in Franklin Co., GA.

Benjamin Franklin Shockley's parents were Aquilla M. Shockley b. 1780 SC and Millicent Amelia King b. 1792 MD. They married 1811 in Franklin Co., GA.

You should be able to find plenty of info on the Internet from Aquilla going further back.

I have a Benjamin S. Shockley in my line from Upson county, GA. He married my ggaunt Mazy Jane Brown and migrated into north louisiana(claiborne parish).

The Benjamin's in this Shockley line all seem to have the middle initial F for Franklyn. The Shockley line I'm looking at were in Oklahoma in the 1929 or 30 census.I still find no maiden name for Minnie May Shockley. I'm still looking. Thanks for your message.
