My 2nd great grandfather was James Shockley Bates born 1810 in Pendelton Dist SC [northwestern part of SC on the GA line]. I don't think there is proof, but many charts list his parents as John Bates and Elizabeth Shockley. The only thing I have found is a deed selling one quarter acre of land on the Savannah River [I think] for a ferry landing. It was sold to Thomas Shockley of Abbeville County SC. The Shockley Ferry was later called Brown's Ferry and next Alford's Bridge. There is an apple named Shockley's Apple which found its name here. Hart County, GA, across the ferry landing is where my ancestor James Shockley Bates married several of his 5 wives and lived for many years. If his mother is Elizabeth Shockley, she would have been born about1790, the year Thomas Shockley started his ferry. I know I am clutching at straws, but can anyone connect with Elizabeth Shockley Bates? Thanks, Jeanne Park

thomas SHOCKLEY jr born about 1755 and died in anderson county sc was married twice. one of his wives was named elizabeth moley DALTON. i only have one child listed for them a margaret born about 1785. thomas jr. may be the one you need to look at.he would be the right age to be the father of your elizabeth. i am descended from his son john by his other wife connie SALTER. ( he is my 5th great grandfather )i wish i could help more. keep me posted

Browsing thru the entries and recognized this name. My father has listed in his records a Thomas Shockley born in 1755 in Pittsylvania Co., VA and died in 1843 at his son's home in White Co. TN. His wife's name was Hannah Dalton. (There seemed to be a lot of Shockley's and Dalton's in his records). Parents were Richard Shockley (born 1732) and Elizabeth Meredith (1753 or 1754). Sorry! Had one piece of information wrong. My father did NOT have a listing for Thomas Shockley's wife. I gave him the name you had listed (Elizabeth Dalton). He does have a listing for one of Thomas' sons, a Booker Shockley (born 1790) who married Hannah Dalton (born 1799).

and it sounds like you may fall under the
Aquilla Shockley b. 1780 who married Millicent
King and died in Paulding Cty, GA. Chareyn@aol.com
is working this line - he may able to provide
more information.

My line migrated to Hall County, GA - this
Aquilla was born in 1793 and I'm actually a
descendant of his twin brother Thomas. I'll
be happy to share what little I have if you
