Betty,
After getting the new Shockey Newsletter I've been trying to figure out where the Shawkey's are in the Isaac & Jane Shockey line. Is that part of the line you are looking into? Here's an obit from the newsletter:
Sue Shelton Shawkey, 93, of Charleston passed away at her residence at Edgewood Summit on Tuesday, July 7, 2009. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, the Kanawha Literary Club, Kanawha Medical Auxiliary, the University of Charleston Women Builders, Alpha Omicron Pi sorority, and the Charleston Garden Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. George Arthur Shawkey, in October 1997. (Note: This Dr. George Arthur Shawkey was actually a Shockey who descended from Isaac and Jane Shockey. When the family moved to Fayette County from Virginia, the school teacher insisted that the children were misspelling their surname and made them change it.) She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Cerutti and husband, John, of Los Alamos, NM; and two grandsons, David Cerutti of New Brunswick, NJ and Mark Cerutti of San Diego, Calif. Memorial service will be held at 11 AM Saturday, July 11, at First Presbyterian Church, Charleston, with the Rev. Dr. William McCoy officiating. Friends may join the family in a celebration of her life at Edgewood Summit following the memorial service on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 16 Leon Sullivan Way, Charleston, WV 25301, or a charity of your choice. Barlow-Bonsall Funeral Home has been entrusted to handle the arrangements.
I found the following in a Google search since the full obit would not appear: George A Shawkey – Charleston, WV; b. Abt 1916; d. 20 Oct 1997; Northwestern Univeristy Medical School 1943
Would love to help and get help figuring it out. :)
