Ernest Thomas Shoaf, 88, of Old US Highway 52 North, departed this life Monday, October 15, 2012 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston Salem, NC.
He was born on October 6, 1924 in Davidson County to Alonzo Franklin Shoaf and Sallie Eller Thomas Shoaf.
He received his education in the Davidson County schools. Mr. Shoaf was a member of Chestnut Grove United Methodist Church, having joined at an early age.
He served as a steward of the church.
He was a World War II veteran who served in Normandy, Northern France with the 569th Engineer Company.
He received a service ribbon with 2 bronze stars and the Good Conduct Medal.
He was a member of VFW of the US and Banks Miller American Legion Post 255.
He was a retired employee of Binnings Products Co. of Lexington, North Carolina.
Mr. Shoaf was preceded in death by his parents; two brother, Fred Shoaf and Willie (Erma) Shoaf and two sisters, Cora (Samuel) Hargrave and Minnie Beatrice Shoaf.
He leaves to cherish his memory his sister, Savannah (William) Adderton of Southmont; two aunts, Ollie Tuttle and Odahlia Thomas both of Midway and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The funeral service will be Sunday at Chestnut Grove United Methodist Church at 2:30 pm with family visitation a half hour before the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Public viewing will be Saturday from 1-8 PM at Roberts Funeral Service.
The funeral cortege will assemble and leave from 302 Wafford Rd., Southmont, NC, home of the sister, Savannah Adderton.
