Mrs. Dorothy Shiveley nee Ingham Died 2012 Washington State

The Seattle Times Friday, March 9, 2012
Obituary and Death Notice
Dorothy I. Shiveley
January 15, 1917 ~ February 24, 2012
Dorothy met her end times after a long and full life. She was born in San Pedro, California to Charles Samuel Ingham and Katheryn Charlotte Merwin Ingham. In her childhood their family traveled out to the desert and up to Yosemite to vacation when there was nothing but "corduroy" roads. She attended San Pedro High School. After graduation she attended the Frank Wiggins Trade School in Los Angeles where she learned dressmaking and tailoring. She made fabulous dresses, suits and wedding dresses.

Dorothy married John Pierce Shiveley at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in San Pedro in 1938. John was in the United States Navy and his service took them to homes all across the country. In the postwar years they settled in Seattle (Shoreline) where they raised their two boys, Phillip and Richard.

Dorothy was a Navy wife, mother, homemaker, great cook and avid gardener. Although she didn't particularly like tomatoes, she loved to grow them. She enjoyed playing solitaire. She was an accomplished seamstress, sang in the church choir and with the Seattle Chorale. Dorothy enjoyed her role as family matriarch, grandmother and great-grandmother.

From her childhood, Dorothy was active in Episcopal Church life. After his retirement from the Navy and from teaching, John became a Deacon in the church and Dorothy took great pride in being the Deacon's Wife. Dorothy was active in church guild work (St. Agnes Guild) until the last couple of years.

She is survived by: her sons, Phillip Shiveley (Alice) and Richard Shiveley (Cathy); her grandchildren Sally (Steve Soran), Jill Shiveley, John Shiveley (Nicole) and Robert Shiveley and her five great-grandchildren, Veronica, Michael, Phillip and Sophie Soran and Harry Shiveley.

A celebration of her life will be held at St. Dunstan's Parish 722 North 145th Street, Shoreline, Washington 98133 on April 28, 2012 at 11AM. Remembrances may be made to: St. Dunstan's Parish (Outreach).

My maiden name is Schaublin and we're from NW Ohio. Heinrich (Henry)Schaublin was born in Basel Switzerland May 10, 1810 and came to Ohio in 1844. First they were in Wayne County, then Allen County. He married Anna Marie Kasper in Switzerland and they had 7 children. I haven't been able to make the connections further back with other Schaublin families.

What info do you have on your wife's family? Does it sound like the same branch?

Barb

Elizabeth Knott letter to Mr. Shivaley OHIO

Looking for Mr. Shivaley who knew (married ?) the daughter of Elizabeth Knott. In 1832 Elizabeth bound her son, Richard to a Saul Henkle which was mentioned in a letter to Mr. Shivaley. I found a widow Catherine Shivaley in Indiana in 1880 Census who was 80 and born in Ohio and parents in Penn. This affair was outlined in Guardian Papers in Clark Co. OH, July 12, 1832. Elizabeth indicates that she felt inexperienced to care for the boy. She asks that Mr. Shivaley "give my regards to my daughter and take a share to yourself". Any ideas or leads would be appreciated.

Hi!

Just thought I'd look in google for my last name. I come from a long line of Shiveley's from Adams county/Scioto county. I think Blue Creek is adams county, right?

My dad was Hartzel Shiveley and he was born up on route 52 in Blue Creek. All of his family is gone now, but he had 12 kids. Actually 14 all together, but two didn't make it. Let me know if this is what you're looking for and I'll try to help you out. I'd actually have to ask my older brother's and sister's for more detailed info on his family. His dad was Harold Shiveley. There was an Adam, Frank, Paul, I can't think of the others and he had one sister. I think that was aunt Katherine.

anyway, let me know if you want to know more.

Margaret Julie Shiveley (Maggie)

Sorry it took so long to reply. My great grandmother's parents were George Milton Dallas Shiveley (abt1846-1916)and Ella Nora Harmon (abt1854-1917). Her father was a twin. I have more info, but it's not handy. I'll dig out what I have and post it in a day or two.

My great grandmother was Myrtle Belle Shiveley born March 11 1875 in Adams County Ohio. She married my great grandfather Edward Pistole. Their children were George Everett (my grandfather), William, Virgil, Forrest, Harry, Rose, and Paul. She may have been married a second time to a man named Bert McDaniel (haven't verified this).

I was born and raised in Wray, CO. My Great- Great? Grandfather thought Shivley should be spelled "ley", while his brothers thought it should be spelled"ely", and so the family split. We all acknowledge that we are related, but it is not close knit. Hope this helps?.
Jonna

I also have a clarification to the death date for William Marion Shiveley
it is Jan 13, 1920 instead of June. (He was my great-grandfather). If you would like validation of the death date please contact me at yvonne.dishon@uc.edu
I also have a listing of his 13 children if you do not.

Hi William. Perhaps you can help me get my info straight. My maternal Grandmother was born Maudest Belle Cooper in West Union Ohio.
Her parents were William Henry Cooper and Celestine Shiveley. Celestine was the youngest daughter of Jacob Shiveley and Elinor Hornbeck, from Adams county. Jacob and Elinor were there in the 1850 and 1860 Census.
Family oral history states that William Henry Cooper was buried at Harmony Cemetery near Union or West Union. Could you tell me if Union and West union are the same place ?
Also, do you (Or anyone else) know of a Harmony Cemetery near that town. Any help would be appreciated. I have a file on most of the descendants of Jacob and Elinor, would gladly share.
Larry Welch
ariz@wans.net

Elizabeth Married Benjamin Franklin WIGGINS who is my husband's ggrandfather.
Do any of these names mean anything to you?
Sincerly, Jo Cookie@aliens.com
