In the Steinmetz Cemetery in Schoeneck, Pa, Lancaster County there is a large monument with the following inscription:
"In memory of Ulrich Shirk who came from Switzerland on the ship Motonhouse and landed at Phila. Aug. 24, 1728, with a family of 8 children, 6 sons and 2 daughters, viz: Ulrich, John, Casper, Peter, Michael and Joseph, Martha and Jeanette. Ulrich 2nd, born 1711 died 1753, Anna Swarr, his wife born 1720 died 1810. They were blessed with 10 children viz: Ulrich 3rd born May 16, 1751, died May 14, 1842 married Maria Eberly born Dece 12 1759 died June 6, 1831. David Shirk married Barbara Erb. Michael Shirk born May 26, 1759, died April 4, 1827, married Barbara Flickinger born June 6, 1759, died Dec 2, 1830, Elizabeth born Jan 22, 1740, married John Funk. Barbara married John Yagy. Annie married John Frantz. Kate married Joseph Bare. Magdelena born Apr. 1753 died Dec. 25, 1843 married David Cockley. Sally married Adam Frantz. Maria married Geo. Frantz" I went through the cemetery wrote down the names on the stones I could read. Ulrich III and Maria are there. Some stones are in terrible shape, but I do have names birth/death dates of a lot of Shirks (also spelled Scherk, Sherk, Scherck
