CONVERSE M. SHIRER whose death at Porter's Hotel. Zanesville you noticed a few days ago, was a member of Captain Egan's company 97th regiment-not of the 122nd as you stated. He was a young man of correct habits, and enjoyed the confidence and esteem of a very large circle of friends and acquaintances. He was a consistent member of the
Baptist church at Adamsville in this county, where he resided up to the time of his enlistment in the army of his country. Shortly after the battle at Perryville,
Kentucky he was taken prisoner by Morgan's men and paroled, when he returned home enervated by disease contracted during the severe exposure to which his regiment was incident during their march through
Kentucky into the slaughter pen of
Buell and
Bragg at Perryville, from which disease he never recovered, and which doubtless, was the remote cause of his death.
Among many acquaintances he leaves a good name, while we are not without hope that he has enetered upon the scenes of "a better country even an heavenly."
A funeral sermon will be preached by his pastor Rev. S. Siegfried, at Adamsville on Sabbath next, 29th inst. at 11 O'CLOCK, A.M.
