Classification: Query
Surnames: Shipp, McClanahan, Joyce
The information I have says that Josiah Shipp that married Esther Joyce of Stokes Co., NC, had a number of children by her, and set them up with property in Hickman Co., TN. Idon't know if he was a minister. He adopted 4 children of Mary McClanahan in 1815, the oldest being Felix Grundy McClanahan, born 1809 in TN. According to our family tradition, my John McClanahan, born 1805 in KY, was Felix's older brother. We could have been Shipps, but kept the McClanahan name for posterity. There is no mention of him in Josiah's documents, but his will defines Felix and the others as children of Mary McClanahan.

This is my interest: If there is any male Shipp out there with the ancestry of Josiah and Esther Joyce or Mary McClanahan, would you allow your DNA to be analyzed to see if there might be a match with my family line? Somewhere in my DNA, there is something that distances us from other McClanahan branches, because my DNA doesn't match any McClanahan samples that have been done already.
