for years I have been searching "Shepler" only to realize lately that there were at least four different spellings used by descendents of John Shepler and his brother Henry in Frederick county Virginia. John's sons Mathias, Peter and Philip moved to Rostraver Twp., Westmoreland county, Pennsylvania in 1772. From these brothers and one sister it appears , Shipler, Sheplar and possibly Shiplor may have evolved. In a family genealogy credited to Eckstein Case the family name was Shiplor. Peter Shepler's Son Philip S. spelled his name Shipler. Peter's son Henry who married Rebekah Frye according to a tombstone spelled his name Sheplar. In Fells cemetery all the family members were Sheplers and at Rehoboth cemetery a few miles south of Fells there are Sheplars. My question is - has anyone found other spellings for this family name.
