I’m seeking the siblings and information on ancestors of this John Shepler. His SS-5 gives his parents as William Shepler and Caroline Arft. He died in Sept 1971 in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.

The 1920 census has him as an engineer on private yachts living in Coconut Grove, Dade Co., FL with a wife Hazel (Godfrey) Shepler.

I can’t find him in the 1930 census but his wife and a daughter are living with a connected family in MI. I believe he may have been “at sea.”

According to the SS-5 he first applied for a Social Security card in 1937. He was employed by the Henry Nivens Shipyard in Long Island, NY then. That card could not be found and he was issued a duplicate in 1940 when he was living in Norfolk, VA.

Unconfirmed family documents state that, “Lena Wiliammeina Minerva Arfenheimer lived in the Black Forest (Dusseldorph) Germany. She married William Schepler. They had five children: Henry, William (Bill), Minerva (Aunt Minnie), Ella, and John.”
