THE OVERLAND MASSACRE -- We yesterday conversed, says the Sacramento ‘Union,’ with John G. SHEPHERD and Benjamin Smalley CLEMENTS, who had just arrived from over the Plains, and who were about 7 miles in the rear of the party who were attacked and partly massacred by the Indians at Great Canyon, about 25 miles beyond Raft river. There were 6 persons killed at that place and in the immediate vicinity. The name have been partially given by us, but we here give them in full:
Captain Ferguson SHEPHERD
William SHEPHERD
Clayborn RAINS
William C. DIGGS
C.W. HALL
James D. WRIGHT

The latter died at Thousand Spring Valley. Mrs. Rebecca WRIGHT, his wife, was shot through the body, but survived, and is now with her child of 2 years at Geonoa. Mrs. WRIGHT was severely kicked and bruised by the Indians. E. SMITH, of the party, was wounded, James HARRIS received 3
wounds, and a boy, son of C.W. HALL, slightly wounded. The Indians made way with 31 mules and horses, and killed 3 mules and a horse on the ground. They took out of a wagon $1000 in gold, 3 gold watches, silver watch and miniatures. A box containing $1700 of gold was not. The
out-fit of 4 wagons was destroyed by them. Our informants stated that 29 head of cattle had been run away by the Indians at another time, and at Goose Creek Canyon their party was fired on and some of their stock wounded and 1 killed. James SHEPHERD and wife were in the train, but not injured.

They also informed us that in their opinion white men concerned in the massacre. The parties with whom we conversed came up soon after the attack and rendered every assistance to the survivors. The unfortunate immigrants were all from Howard county, Missouri.
