My father is Roscoe Maynard Shasteen. He lived in Washington C.H. Ohio when he was young. His brother is Verl Shasteen. Their father was Roscoe Shasteen. I know Roscoe had several brothers; Earl,Everett. That's about all I know right now. Brenda DeJarnette

Brenda, I'm trying to remember what you looked like but-you see-Roscoe was my great uncle--Everett was my grandfather-I am the son of Frank and Betty Shasteen--have two brothers and a sister-Francis, Robert, and Vicki. I KNOW--we have met at one of the old Shasteen reunions that used to be held at the Washington C. H. City park from time to time. Wish things were still as nice and pleasant as they used to be. Jim, Glad to get your message. I had forgotten about the message that I had posted. I remember the reunions with great joy. Roscoe was my grandfather-Maynard and Martha are my parents. I have 2 sisters-Sheila and Carol. I also had a brother-Mark-he had cerebral palsy and passed away when he was almost 25. I remember Uncle Everett and Uncle Earl,but I was pretty young. Daddy and Mother now live in Lewisport, KY about 8 miles from me. Sheila and Barry (McClaskie) live in Hawesville, KY also about 8 miles away. Do you remember Uncle Verl (Daddy's brother)? He now lives in Georgia with his son Scott. My sister Carol lives in Hoopeston, IL. My husband and I have three children-Lisa, Lora, and Brad. Lisa lives in Lewisport with husband Rob, and has 2 children-Jaide and Philip. Lora lives in Ringgold, GA with husband Daniel and also has 2 children-Clay and Caitlin. Brad is single (but has a girlfriend) and lives across the road from us. We live on a small farm-about 250 acres. Don't know much more to tell. Thanks for the message. Brenda

Brenda---so glad to receive your reply. My father Frank passed away suddenly in 1974 from an acute MI--my mother Betty passed in 1999---had cancer and passed in her sleep. I live in Tennessee--a town about 10 miles from Knoxville--Lenoir City--Bob, my brother is a pharmacist with a company that was formerly Merck phamacueticals. He lives in Grove City, Ohio---Francis lives and works in Washington CH at a former Meade paper box plant. Vicki lives and works in Greenfield, Ohio and as for me---I work for ACN Jewelry Television as a show facilitator and production assistant. ACN is the world's largest seller of loose gemstones and the fastest growing home shopping network in the world. It is now called just Jewelry Television---available on Direct TV on CH. 367 and Dish Network on CH 227 and also on some cable affilliates. I miss the old times----simpler things and times---times when family was family--even though they still had their problems, differences and all. I remember your brother who had cerebral palsy--and his courage as well as the courage and love you and your family had for him. Hearing from family like you is really nice and I hope we can stay in touch. I have a family tree on your father's side of the family and if you would like it I would be very pleased to share it with you. I have a son who lives in Clarksville, Tn. and two grandchildren. i don't see them much as I was divorced from his mother in 1978 and she really made it difficult for me to see him. The one constant I have had in my life is God-Jesus-the Holy Spirit. THEY have made things good for me even in harsh and very bad times. I've made my share of mistakes and some very bad decisions in my life--but I know HE looks out for me. Sorry--not trying to preach---just sharing a little with you. OHHH---by the way---did you know that our ancestry is of French Huegonot descent? They came to America just before the American Revolution and were awarded land in what is now central and southcentral Ohio for service in the Continental Army!! They were originally settled in Virginia. The name spelling has changed and alot of the Shasteens separated into their own groups due to family squabbles---a bad seed in the family---but I believe in my research we are in some way all related--be they Shasteen--Shastein--Chastain--Chasteen--Chastain. James, Hi. I am working on the same Shasteen line as you. Have met and keep in (occasional) contact with Martha Rittinger of Ross County. I wonder if we've been in touch before? Although I don't think so . . . I am descended from Frances Marion Shasteen's sister, Mary Alice Shasteen (married my g-grandfather, Shepherd Keller). Martha Rittinger is descended from sister Martha Shasteen (married a Slager). Am wondering what info you have, and where you have gotten it. We're well aware of the possible "French connection," but myself, Martha and Ray Shasteen of Houston, all grew up hearing that this family was Irish. The Chastain Family Association's genealogist, Gerre Buland has been working to connect our Ross Co. Shasteens to the Chastains for years, but has found no connection. It does seem likely however since they were found in close proximity at the same time in Virginia. Would love to hear from you . . . glad to hear of your faith too - one that I share as well. I am from Ohio but don’t know really know anything about the family. My grandparents were William Harris Shasteen and Elisabeth (Betty). They had three Boys William Harris (JR), Herbert Wayne (Herb), Samuel Ray (Sam). Jr Past away last year do to cancer. Herb and Sam are still alive in Ohio. JR had three kids Jennifer, Brandy, and William (Billy), Herb has to many to kids to list. Then Sam as me Sam Jr and Kristopher. I have been try for some time to find out more about the family. When I ask questions I never get any good answers. I don’t know is the most common.

Sam, what part of Ohio is your family from? Do you know who your great grandparent were? William is a common name in the Shasteen lines, and in my indirect line there was a William Harrison Shasteen. Your William Harris would probably have been a younger generation (depending on how old you are). My large Shasteen family was from the Ross county area (although some of them continued on north in Ohio to Darke County area). It would help if you know G-grandparents names. Hope to hear from you.
