Have a question for you or any of the other Shankle researchers. I notice that the first post on the census report on the Shankles lists family #547 pg 82 as being William Shankle and they lived at Lebanon. Also family # 539 pg 84 is that of the family of John Shankle. My question is this. Was the place where John Shankle lived and William Shankle lived, namely Lebanon, the same place?. What I am trying to get at is this. The 1860 DeKalb County census shows that Alfred Phillips and his family and Isaac Little and his family lived at Lebanon. Benjamin F. Phillips, son of Alfred and Elizabeth McCarter, grew up and married Isaac Little and Mahala's daughter, Rachel Mariah Little. To further complicate the situation John Shankle and Clarissa had a dau who married James Madison Skelton. They had a dau who grew up and married Benjamin F. and Rachel Mariah Little's son,John William Phillips. Now that I have you totally confused my question is this. I am trying to figure out if all of these tenant farmers might have all lived at Lebanon as neighbors. If so then maybe some other questions can be answered.. I grew up in Madison County and am not even familiar with where Lebanon is. So the fact that they are listed as having lived at Lebanon intrigues me. Maybe some of you researchers out there can help me out with this situation. In the census reports Alfred Phillips father of Benjamin F. Phillips who married Rachel Mariah Little dau of Isaac and Mahala Little is listed as living at Lebanon.. John Shankle's dau Catherine married James Madison Skelton whose daughter, Sarah Margaret Skelton married John William Phillips, the son of Benjamin F. Phillips and Rachel Mariah Little, and subsequently were my grandparents. Hope this explains a little bit about my mystery. I started to delete his paragraph but I am going to leave it alone so maybe it will clear a little of the confusion.
Thanks a lot.
