My grandfather was a william B. Shanahan. On his baptismal certificate, Michael sullivan is listed as godfather. My family originally from Cty Cork, then Welland, Ontario, Then Buffalo New York. Where I still reside. I keep hitting brick walls.

We have Shannon, Shanahan and Shannahans from Brantford, Ontario. I postd info looking back in 2001 and honestly
did not follow up with all of you. I can not tell you whether or not our group came from Ennismore area of Ontario. I really could not establish that info. However, I have some added info about our Brantford line.. actually it's my husband's late mother's side of the family ..She was a Crocock who mother wasElizabeth Shanahan aka Lizzie Shannon (prominent widowed lady in Brantford) and father Wm Crocock. Elizabeth's father was Daniel Shannahan and mother Bridget Mellican.. I believe Daniel and Bridget had a son Daniel Jr. who maried Bridget McMahan.. Then we also have a David Shanahan marrie Margaret ? and had Patricdk 1858 John 1861 Margaret 1858 and Katie 1857...

Daniel Shanahan & Annie Carey Married 1824 Roscommon. They had two children, Daniel Jr and another name unknown. Daniel Sr and unknown, Died durring the potato famine. Annie and Daniel Jr came to Canada, first to the Enismore Ontario area, Then finally settled in Huron County Ontario and Farmed the same farm for 3 generations.
If anyone knows of Daniel Shanahan Sr or his wife Anne Carey family history, it would be much appreciated. we seem to have hit a stone wall as to their history.

They married in 1928 and their are listed in the 1930 US Census. Search OneWorldTree for either name. I have attached the census to their records. The had 1 son that I know of: John G Shanahan, born May 1929.

Kathryn Irine Brown is a 7th Cousin 2x Removed of my maternal side. I go back to your Ramey/Remy line.

My Mary Shanaghan/Shannon born in Graignamanagh or Ullard Kilkenny about 1821(may have been 1817 but I calculated this from her age given in a document in 1827 but it might be a bit out who knows), her brother John was born about 1818 and sister Catherine was born about 1814 - Their father was Michael Shanahan/Shannon(b. ca. 1790) a bargeman from Kilkenny - I presume he worked on the river Barrow, mother was Mary Cunningham - other than this I cant tell you much more unless you see something in their names that she gave to her children etc.

What else can you think of?

Doug: Thomas Shanahan/Shannon was born in 1821 in Co. Carlow, Ire.; married Ann Joyce in Ireland. They had a son - Patt - who was baptized in Ireland in Dec. 1846. Have not found anything else on this child to date. They settled in Osgood, Ont. Can. Their children were: Mary 1851-1910 M. Michael Stackpole in 1880; Paul 1853-1914 m. Jane Fitzsimmons in 1875; Patrick 1856-1927 m Catherine Stackpole in 1886; Elizabeth 1858-1933 m Thomas Ryan; Bridget 1860-1829 m John Samuel Fitzsimmons in 1884; Anna 1865-1937 m John O'Boyle, date unknown.

Interesting story with a Shanahan

I found this and thought it was interesting. A Shanahan was on the jury. Jane Skiffington, daughter of Michael Skiffington and Mary Hughs / Hughes , married
Feb,10 .1857 at Our Lady of the Visitation church South Gloucester, to Timothy Keough
born 1832 ,Tipperary Ireland, son of James McKeough and Catherine Ryan.
Timothy and his wife ,and children lived on with his ageing parents .
they farmed on South half of lot , 9 .con ,4. in Osgoode Township. on what was known
as the Bytown Prescott Stagecoach route. an unfortunate incident brought tragedy in
to this family, and took the life of Timothy. The Russell County, Agriculture Fair was
held at Metcalfe on Sept, 21. 1864. Timothy, and his brother-inlaw. Thomas O'Rourke,
attended the fair on horse back, on their way home, Timothy a non-drinker stopped to
get some sweeties for his 4 small children. A brawl was in process at the 4 corners -
Baker's Corners' he stopped to break it up. but was hit over the head with a stick of
cordwood, he was taken into the store, a Doctor was called, and later he was taken to
his home on the Prescott road. My grandmother, a young girl at the time, recalled ,
in the dark of the night, while awaiting the arrival of the team & wagon. bringing
her Uncle home . put her ear too the ground. listening for the sound of the wagon
wheels turning on the hard ground, as they drew ever nearer , Timothy died that night
at 11, o'clock. The next day an inquest was conducted by Coroner Patterson ,
The Jurymen were: James Cangley James Duncan, John McEvoy, Andrew Doyle, Paul Shanahan,
John Turner, James Heney, John O'Doherty, John Dealy (Daley?), James Marcial / Marshall,
Patrick Down [Dewan] Francis McGee. After many witnesses were heard the verdict was
that Timothy Keough had come to his death by blows from a stick and whipstocks.

On a tombstone in the Glouc, cemetery, faded and worn with the mist of time ,
the inscription reads, Timothy Keough, September 21 ,1864 . killed by an
Unknown Assailant. Later, his widow Jane & the 4 children . James. Mary . Catherine.
and Ann, ages from 1-7 at the time of their father's death moved to Boise, Idaho, USA.
The property was left with the Father-in-law.
Little is known of this family , an obituary in the "Idaho Statesman". reads Keogh
James ,J,died at St, Alphonsus'Hospital June 13, 1905, deceased leaves besides his
mother three sisters-Miss Mary and Miss Anna Keogh Mrs Flynn . he was buried in St,
John's cemetery, Mrs Jane [skiffington] Keogh died 5 / 6 , 1909 the deceased is survived by three daughters, Mary . and Anna of Boise . and Mrs P, H . Flynn of Humboldt Kansas . Miss Anna Keogh, died at her home thursday August 9 , 1934 , survived by one sister Miss Mary of this city , Boise Idaho . Mary kept in touch with my grandmother , " Catherine [Keough"]Daley ,for many years, I am a G,G.G Grandson of James McKeough , and Catherine Ryan .

I found a birth index for Gladys Margaret Shanahan born in Lynn in 1905. The image is currently unavailable.

The 1920 census indicated that John and Catherine were married in 1890. I found a marriage record April 9, 1890 - John Shannahan, age 28, a tailor, born in Ireland, parents John and Bridget – m – Kate Conley, age 24, born Ireland, parents Patrick and Margaret.

A couple of minor updates.

The death record for John, 1900 in Groveland, indicates that his parents were Michael and Julia Flynn Shanahan.

The marriage of Timothy Shanahan and Joanna Welch is recorded in Haverhill as June 9, 1854

The marriage for Edmund and Nancy Minihan was registered in Haverhill, not Groveland.

Jeremiah, son of Timothy and Johanna Welch, died in S Groveland on Dec 25, 1907 at the age of 40. Cause was Pulmonary Tuberculosis. He was listed as a Widower.

Hi Erin,

Edmund married on Jan 17, 1860. (I must have forgotten to include the year when I originally posted:-) His age is listed as 22, so that would put yob at abt 1838.

Also, Edmund and Nancy are listed a living in Haverhill. It's been awhile since I was looking at this family, but I'm pretty sure that the Haverhill/Groveland group are the same core family.
