It is very likely that we may be related. I have 2 Louis Charbonneaus in my family and one did return to Canada. What year was Louis/Lewis Charbonneau born? Was his father Joseph Charbonneau? My Louis Charbonneau was my great granduncle and was born about 1834.

I have the Charbonneau/Sharbono family tree back to about 1590 if you are interested.

I just happened by this site to get some ideas on the spelling for a name my father-in-law gave me. Phonetically it is SHA-bin-aw. I don't know if that's close to your name or not. I'm looking for a "Shabinaw" that married Ida WATERLOO in Detroit between 1900 and 1910. I'm not sure of the spelling but am pretty sure about the marriage. Hope you or someone else who drops by here will be able to connect to this DETROIT family in the early 1900's. Thanks for being there! Good luck with your site.............

Hi Patti-
Thanks for trying! I haven't found anything yet. The Ida [Waterloo] SHA-bin-aw I'm looking for was born in April 1884 according to the 1900 census which shows the Waterloo family name as WASSELLO. [In the 1910 and 1920 censuses it's WATERLOO.......go figure!] Ida had two daughters by ? SHA-bin-aw......Eleanore and Melda. I really appreciate your help. Thanks again......Dolores

Thanks Patti for your reply. Sometimes "easy" names get misspelled in the census, but the possibilities for misspelling THIS name are ENDLESS! Good luck in your search.......Dolores

Shabinaw

I know our family name started as Charbonneau, and it has been spelled many ways. Shawbinaw was one way it was spelled on the census. It was changed to Shabino and Chabino. I will keep a look out for Ida.
Patti

This is a new Message Board and we recently added the Shabino surname to the mail list. Shabino for my family was originally Charbonneau. Please feel free to post and let us know about your Shabino Family.

Patti Jepsen
Board Administrator
