Sha (Eha) Family from Schömberg, Wuertenburg, Germany
I have an extensive family history database on Sha and Eha family members who are direct descendants of Josef Eha b. Abt. 1560 Nuertingen (Nürtingen), Germany and Anna Vogel b. Abt. 1564 Nuertingen (Nürtingen), Germany. There are still family members in the Schömberg area of Germany. Descendants in the United States can be found in Minnesota, Ohio, Colorado, Kansas and California. One family branch changed their name from Eha to Sha around 1869 in Minnesota so there are many Sha family members who are direct descendants of Josef and Anna Eha also. Other family names related to Ehas are Hildebrand, Lerch, Fehland, Muckenthaler, Colosky, Schmidberger, Schiebel, Faulhaber, Wuhrer, Riedlinger, Hehl, Besenfelder, Koch and Krieg. Post a reply if you want more information or if you have something to contribute to my database - thanks. Dave Petrie

Re: Sha (Eha) Family from Schömberg, Wuertenburg, Germany
my grandmothers maiden name is Marilyn Sha. Her parents are George and Edna Sha. The only other thing that I know about this part of my family is that somewhere along the line there was a German Sha. I remember my grandmother showing me a picture of German Sha and others, but I was really young. I have no other information besides my grandmothers siblings - Neil and Stanley Sha. Marilyn resided in the Erhard/Pelican Rapids, Minnesota area. This probably makes no sense, but if any of it sounds familiar I would really like to try and find out more about my family history.

Re: Sha (Eha) Family from Schömberg, Wuertenburg, Germany
Sarah,
This is what makes this, sometimes frustrating, hobby fun. Yes, I am familiar with all the people and places you mention. From your post I would conclude that we share a common ancestor which would be my ggg grandfather. His name was Eha instead of Sha however. German Eha, who was the brother of my gg grandmother changed his name about 1869 to Sha before heading to Erhard Grove, Minnesota (nearly named Sha's Grove). The family is still debating the reasons he changed his name.
German and his wife Elizabeth had a very interesting introduction to Minnesota when, during the Sioux Indian Uprising of 1862, they were chased across southern Minnesota by hostile Indians trying to kill them. ""From April 1, 1862, Mr. Sha was employed by the government at Yellow Medicine, a Sioux Indian agency. On the 18th of August 1862, there broke out an Indian uprising. With the assistance of a friendly Indian (John Other Day), Mr. Sha, wife and a party of thirty-five people, were able to escape, traveling acreoss country for five days." [History of Otter Tail County, Minnesota, p.812 -Otter Tail County Historical Society's Archives, Fergus Falls, Minnesota]
I am in touch with quite a few Sha family descendents of German in Minnesota as well as Eha relatives around the country. I will contact you directly with much more information. I have many pictures scanned and information on the descendents of an Eha who lived in the 1500s including ourselves.
I look forward to getting your family information and adding you to our Eha/Sha group so you get any new information that we find concerning the family.

Re: Sha (Eha) Family from Schömberg, Wuertenburg, Germany
Hi Dave. Thank you so much for your reply. This is very interesting. I am actually in the process of contacting my grandmothers brother, Neal Sha, to see if he may have some information recorded somewhere. I did find out the rest of my grandmothers siblings names...Neal, Stanley, Marilyn(g-ma), Glenn and Burma. I have no idea if Neal will have any information for me, but hopefully I will be able to put all of this together! I have to go, for now. Thank you, again, for replying to my message and hopefully I will hear from you again soon! You can send messages directly to my email if you'd like. Whatever is easiest for you. wentsailing@yahoo.comSarah Grant Moorhead, MN

Re: Sha (Eha) Family from Schömberg, Wuertenburg, Germany
My family is Shabel, which I see by the census reports, had resided in Minnesota. I show that my great, great grandfather, Joseph Shabel had at least some of his children in Minnesota, I know only two names so far: Edward Shabel and Harry Shabel, who was the father of my grandfather, also Joseph Shabel. Harry Shabel was born around 1889, but I don't know the county. By 1920 they were in Cleburne County in Alabama. The 1910 Census is not indexed, so I have not been able to locate them prior to 1920. Do you have any info that might help me? r.mccullough@sbcglobal.net

Re: Sha (Eha) Family from Schömberg, Wuertenburg, Germany
Sorry Robin but the Sha family has no connection with Shabel. It is not a contraction for it since the name Sha itself was made up by replacing the first letter of the original family name "Eha" with an "S."

Re: Sha (Eha) Family from Schömberg, Wuertenburg, Germany
Sarah, I was reading your blog and know about your family. Your grandmother passed away in 1997 from cancer. Her brother Neil is my father first cousin. And German Sha was my grandfathers grandfather. Stanley still lives in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, and Neil is in Oragan. Glenn your grandmothers brother just passed away this year. I hope this gives you so insight feel free to contact me if you want any more! Colleen (Sha) Kliebert

Re: Sha (Eha) Family from Schömberg, Wuertenburg, Germany
Hello Colleen, thanks for sharing your Sha family information. German Sha was the brother of my great grandmother, Pauline Eha. German changed his name from Eha to Sha about 1869 just before he moved to Otter Tail county. I have an extensive Sha/Eha document going back to German Sha and beyond to his ancestors in Germany that I can share with you if you are interested. Who are your parents and grandparents? I have sent information to Sarah Grant before and have most of the people you mentioned in your post in my document. Thanks, Dave Petrie.
