Sarah,
This is what makes this, sometimes frustrating, hobby fun. Yes, I am familiar with all the people and places you mention. From your post I would conclude that we share a common ancestor which would be my ggg grandfather. His name was Eha instead of Sha however. German Eha, who was the brother of my gg grandmother changed his name about 1869 to Sha before heading to Erhard Grove, Minnesota (nearly named Sha's Grove). The family is still debating the reasons he changed his name.
German and his wife Elizabeth had a very interesting introduction to Minnesota when, during the Sioux Indian Uprising of 1862, they were chased across southern Minnesota by hostile Indians trying to kill them. ""From April 1, 1862, Mr. Sha was employed by the government at Yellow Medicine, a Sioux Indian agency. On the 18th of August 1862, there broke out an Indian uprising. With the assistance of a friendly Indian (John Other Day), Mr. Sha, wife and a party of thirty-five people, were able to escape, traveling acreoss country for five days." [History of Otter Tail County, Minnesota, p.812 -Otter Tail County Historical Society's Archives, Fergus Falls, Minnesota]
I am in touch with quite a few Sha family descendents of German in Minnesota as well as Eha relatives around the country. I will contact you directly with much more information. I have many pictures scanned and information on the descendents of an Eha who lived in the 1500s including ourselves.
I look forward to getting your family information and adding you to our Eha/Sha group so you get any new information that we find concerning the family.
