Re: sgambelluri's in guam
I have a dear friend who lives in GA; his father's name was Rafael Francesco Sgambelluri. He could have been born abt. 1895; lived in New York earlier, but moved to New Jersey and married. They had a son; sometime near 1922; this is my friend N. L. Bellury; now over 80 yrs. of age and he still hasn't found what had occurred with his father. His father left when he was a child and didn't return home. He has been searching for himr for a long time and I too have tried to help him on the internet. I would appreciate any help that you could give me at this time. Vincent may be the "key" to information needed.
Thanks. Martha Ellen

Re: sgambelluri's in guam
Hi, My name is Paul Nelson. My grandmother; Laura Nelson is a Sgambelluri, borned and lived in Gaum. I was told by my Dad; Joseph Sgambelluri Nelson, who was born in Gaum, Tata Sgambelluri ; Laura's Dad came from Sicily. This is where it gets interesting. There are two stories One, Marcello Vincenzo Salvatore Sgambelluri, Tata, arrived in New York from Sicily. Joined the Navy during WW2. Carried out is duty in the South Pacific. Decided to stay in Gaum after the war. Married and had nine childrend. Story two is too unreal to tell so I will leave it alone.

Re: sgambelluri's in guam
I came across this posting in regards to the Sgambelluri's. Your friend’s father is most likely, my great grandfather’s younger brother. “Raffaele Francesco Sgambelluri” who was born on February 2nd 1186 in Siderno Italy, is listed as the 5th child born to a family of 6. Of the children it was only him and my great grandfather who immigrated to the US in the late 1800’s.
Unfortunately it would be hard to locate any information regarding where he went and why he did not return to your friend when he was young. If he were to leave to be with family his only two options at that time would have been back to Italy or to Guam with my great grandfather. As of now I have not heard of an immediate family member joining my great grandfather on Guam, but I could always check with my mom.
In my family there is only one remaining connection to that period in time. She is my Aunt who would most likely be your friends first cousin. She now lives in California with her family.

Re: sgambelluri's in guam
Marcello Sgambelluri was from Calabria and came to Guam as a US Navy sailor...he married Joaquina Desa Camacho and had 14 children, 9 surviving. Tata as we called him came from a family of furniture makers in Italy. Our cousin Adolf Sgambelluri visited their town in Italy. Mona

Re: sgambelluri's in guam
Rafael Francisco Sgambelluri was my grandfather Marcello Sgambelluri's brother. Marcello came to Guam in the 1800's in the U.S. Navy and remained there through WWII where he was held as a prisoner of was in Japan. He survived the war and died in 1963. He was my grandfather.
My father was Salvatore Giovanni Sgambelluri born and raised on Guam with 8 other siblings...the name was shortened in Georgia...N.L. Bellury received a letter from my sister Lulu Pisarri years ago explaining the family connection and even sent a picture of my father at age 63.
I think my sister knows the whole story about the Bellury father. Mona Sgambelluri Rich

Re: sgambelluri's in guam
It's so interesting seeing all these posts. I have been living in Germany for 9 years now and have visited Italy many times. I have been patiently waiting for some of my relatives to join me in an adventure to our ancestor's home. I think i will go ahead and travel there this summer. No time like the present. I promise to take lots of pictures and interview as many people there as possible. It will be my purpose there. If any of you would like to, I will post them here or I will make a link to them from here... I have so many of my family here on these postings, I think that they would really like to know what the Italy side has to say. If possible it would be very helpful for all of you to post a complete ancestry tree for me to help with the physical search. Thanks
Daniel Giuseppe Sgambelluri
