Sir,
I am not sure that we are looking at the same person. The only thing aus Deutschland that I have is that he was born November 7, 1832, in Zeitz, bei Leipzig, Saxony. He married Amalia in March, I think, and immediately immigrated to the U.S., arriving in New York in May, aboard the ship "Adonis."
Also on board was a Christian Beyer, possibly Amalia's brother. They went to Wisconson, USA, we don't know why. Karl Wilhelm and Amalia had three daughters before she died in 1861. Karl served as a volunteer in our Civil War in 1864. I understand that he also served in the army in Germany. He married his second wife in 1863 (Margaret Laudenklos) and they had four sons. The youngest of those four sons was my grandfather, Herman Ernest Seydel. Karl Wilhelm died in 1902 in Keota, Iowa, USA. Herman Ernest and my own father were both born in Keota, Iowa. But I know nothing of him or family in Germany - hopefully we do have the same person, because that would be a valuable link for me.
