PENSACOLA, FL. – Frances Rachel Sexton Hojer, formerly of Poland, Ohio and Canfield, Ohio passed away on May 17, in Pensacola.
Born Aug. 20, 1926, to Harrison T. Sexton and Gertrude Pelster Sexton, Fran grew up in Poland, Ohio (Mahoning County) and lived there most of her life.
After she graduated from Poland Seminary High School in 1944, she attended Fairfax Hall, a women’s liberal arts junior college in Waynesboro, Va., from where she graduated in 1946.
She returned to Poland and worked for several years at the Bell Telephone Company in Youngstown.
It was while working in Youngstown, that she met and fell in love with a handsome young banker, George A.R. Hojer.
They married on Oct. 23, 1948.
They built a new house in her parents’ garden plot and lived there until 1972, when they moved to Canfield.
“Fran” was an active participant and leader in local clubs and organizations.
She enjoyed playing Bridge with Fortnightly III.
She served as president of the Poland Garden Club and was also a member of the Canfield Garden Club and Western Reserve Garden Club.
Fran was deeply involved in the life of the First Covenant Church in Boardman, OH.
“Frannie” also had a great sense of humor. She wrote humor columns for her high school and college papers, and had a way of injecting humor into everyday life, even dry business meetings. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George, who passed away Dec. 28, 2008. She is survived by her two daughters, Susan Sundell of Salem, N.H., and Leslie Robinson of Pensacola; a grandson, Evan Robinson, of Nashville, Tenn.; nephews Dr. Philip B. Howren and Eric Hoyer; and nieces Marilyn Howren Faix and Donna Howren Haug.
A private memorial service will be held in Pensacola, with her son-in-law, the Rev. Dr. David L Sundell, officiating.
She will be buried next to her husband of 60 years at Barrancas National Cemetery. -
