Settle of Frederick, Virginia

David Stigler died 2 Nov 1819, Frederick, Virginia. The executors of his will were Larkin Settle, Wilford G. Settle & Vincent Settle. Larkin Settle & Wilford G. Settle were sons of Strother G. Settle & Dorothy Ash who married 10 Jul 1782, Fauquier, Virginia. Vincent Settle was son of John Settle & Elizabeth Cooksey.

John Settle died 2 Feb 1801, Frederick, Virginia and he was next door neighbor of David Stigler in Linden, Virginia. He was mentioned in David Stigler's will. John Settle's children continued to live on their father's property after his death.

Wilford G. Settle was the tax collector for Frederick, Virginia and then for Warren, Virginia. Vincent Settle married Kitty Shull in Frederick, Virginia.

David Stigler was born abt. 1745 in King George, Virginia. His wife was born abt. 1750 in King George, Virginia and she died before 1793. Her maiden name was SETTLE.

There’s a female Settle. I believe Strother G. Settle & John Settle and their sister were children of John Settle.

Would appreciate any information about this family. Willing to share info. Thanks

I have never found her parents were for sure. Some said Col Willam Fauntleroy, but he died in 1688 so that is not possible, if she was b 1690. Some say Moore Fauntleroy,b ca1678 but I haven't found proof of that either. Moore did have a daughter Elizabeth, b ca1716.which is too late. so stuck with nothing. Sorry I don't have anything for you.

GLEN MARTIN SETTLE

Just wanted everyone to know that GLEN MARTIN SETTLE from Dickinson Class of 1977 has finally been found. He was a loner in high school, a loner throughout life, had the "care-free wander-lust" and then he died in Missouri on September 9, 2000. :-( Noone knew - it was like he just fell off the face of this earth - and it has taken this long after his death to find him. He only had one daughter. Tracie Renae. He said she was "a real pretty baby". He was a free-flying soul that lived his life for him in the moment.

Yes, I have checked all those sites. The Friendswood address is old, as are the others I have found. I have checked all the free sites and several of the pay sites. I have checked marriage, divorce, SS death index sites too. I am hoping someone from this ancestry site can help me locate him. It is very important.

Hello,

I am the ggg granddaughter of James Franklin Settle and great granddaughter of Jess and Ida Pearl Settle. I am doing research to update our family tree for the Settle reunion this year. Were you there last year by any chance? There was a couple from the Tulsa area there interested in ancestry-that was before I took on this project. Your post was very helpful.
Sara

I would love to hear more on your line. The James F seems to be in my mind, maybe your dad, and grand fathers names? What town, county and state were they from, would help me to identify a little better... No I had not gone to the re union, I wish I could. It sounds amazing... The Settles line is very confusing.. SO many WIlliams, James, Josephs' Susan's Elizabeths lol and they continue with repeating the same names. Hope to hear from you again soon.

Re: Bushrod Settle Bible

In the 1930's the DAR copied as many bibles as possible. I found my White Co, TN family bible there. I would write the DAR Library and see if Settle/Suttle bible was copied.

Looking at the information from others on Bushred/ Bushrod Suttle will, john was the only son mentioned and a daughter . From Chester Neff post on Genforum, " In the Bushrod Suttle will, dated 2 March 1826, and probated in the County Court, Sparta, White County, Tennessee, 10 April 1826, mention is made of wife Mary, nephew Silas L. Suttle, daughter Anna Bedford, and he gives ….to my son John fifty acres of land lying ….” This is inconsistent with the 1830 census record showing Bushrod Suttle & wife, both 60-70 years old, still alive in Rutherford County, NC. Since Mr. Reese Suttle/settle book, did not reference the 1830 census, he may not have looked for Bushrod in NC since the 1826 will probating the estate indicated he was dead. I suspect that there were two Bushrod Suttles and that there are several other unidentified and/or incorrectly identified Suttle individuals in Rutherford County in the early 1800’s."
Hop this helps
I was searching on ancestry.com and found about ten family trees on Newman Settle b ca 1738/42, that had errors in the information. One person put the wrong State for birth and death and that information has been copied . This wasn't intentional, I'm sure, they just didn't change the state when it was being entered in system. PLEASE, be careful copying from Family trees, without verifying with follow up research as it is hard to get misinformation corrected . Newman Settle, probable son of Strother Settle and Mary Browne, was b in VIRGINIA not Colorado, he died in VIRGINIA, not Colorado. We determine this from the fact he owned property in Amherst Co,VA, but died in Bedford Co, VA. His estate was settled 1835 Bedford Co,VA. Please check your family trees for this information. Thanks.

The name was originally Settle and changed to Suttle either with William or some of his sons. Look for the book: The Settle Suttle Family by William Emmett Reesed, Edited by Fannie Lu Camp Fisher. It starts with the immigrant Francis Settle who came to VA in 1657 and has six or seven generations.
The owner of the copyright is Christine Settles Contos of Indianapolis, IN.

Finding a census for this family is very difficult but I do think this might be the same family who is related to you. The last name goes by Wiltshire, Wilshire and Welcher that I know of.
Hello William. I am recently new to Ancestry and have been working on the Settles of Wilkes County, NC trying to find the link back to Culpeper, VA where I've been told we come from. Hampton is the brother of Hiram, my GGgrandfather. I don't know if you have a picture of Hampton's grave, so I've attached it. He's buried at Cool Springs Baptist. I wondered if you have had any luck tying Reuben Sr (father of Reuben and grandfather of Hiram and Hampton) back to Virginia. I can't make the dates match any of the Virginia Reubens I've found. The earliest record I can find of him is the 1800 census in Wilkes.
