Greetings all.
It is my understanding that all of the Setchfields in the U.S. come from one couple that crossed the Atlantic from England in the 1800's.
I would like to find out more information about this. Can anyone help?
I had a geneologist do some research back in the early 80s and he found only 38 living setchfields in the U.S. at that time. Since then I am sure that we have expanded and probably doubled. My grandfather told me that when he was in his 20's (that would be during the 1940's) he received a letter and a check from England that stated that a certain Lord Setchfield had died and his wealth was being distributed to all his decendants.
Does anyone else know of this happening in their direct ancestral line also?
I would like to connect with any and all U.S. Setchfields to start piecing together an ancestry tree and family history. Perhaps in a few years we could have the 1st ever Setchfield reunion in the U.S. to share stories and draw closer.
My great grandfather was Eugene Robert Setchfield and he married Artie Bell Stone and ran a corner store during the 1920's and 30's on Maffitt Avenue in St. Louis Missouri. He died when my grandfather, Robert Eugene Setchfield was still a young boy, so much family history was lost. I do know that Eugene Robert had brothers, although my grandfather only met them when he was very very young. I do have pictures to share.
I know nothing more than what I have written here, and I would like to know everything there is to find out.
please contact me at
setch@crocker.com with any comments, questions, or information you may have. I am collecting every scrap of information that comes my way in hopes of compiling a detailed lineage over the next few years.
Many thanks for your time.
