I've made a start on my Roughsedge review.
There are 2 Thomas&Ann's that overlap, but I think I understand them.
Thomas 1 married Ann Haslam in 1807. He was a farmer of Bold and had a daughter Catherine in 1818.
Thomas 2 married Ann Cook, widow, in 1819. He was a husbandman/labourer of Tarbock (mainly) and was the father of my Ralph in 1821.
It's possible that there is a link between the 2 families, but that will require more work.
My original reason for posting on the Sephton forum was the 1851 census entry showing an Esther Sephton, sister, in the household of James&Margaret Cunliffe which also contains a family of Roughsedges.
James Cunliffe was the father in law of my Ralph Roughsedge and Margaret was his second wife.
I think I have now tracked her down.
She was b.1796 Rainhill, daughter of Kendrick&Sarah Sephton.
She married John Small in Liverpool 1815 and, widowed, married James Cunliffe in 1831 Farnworth.
Esther Sephton was her sister born 1811.
I'll keep on looking for more.
