Hi there,
I am researching the Semain(e) line of my family. Family rumour has it that they were French Jews. I have found a marriage between Attiwell Birchfield and Hannah Semain(e) 6th Aug 1864 in St Paul, Cork Ireland. I am trying to find the birth of Hannah Semain(e) it says on her marriage certificate that she was born in 1837 and that her father was called John Semain(e). From looking at the census records it says in the 1871 Census that she was born in Plymouth, Dorset, England, 1881 Census Manchester, England, 1891 Census England and the 1901 Census Plymouth, Devon, England. She was living in Manchester for all of these Census records. I have just found what I think is her in the 1851 Census (I think this is her because it was the only census record which came up when I searched the name Hannah Semain(e)). In the 1851 Census she was a visitor at 90 Church Road Bethnal Green and it says she was born in Bethnal Green. There was a Samuel Semaine aged 40 and a Jane Semaine aged 42 living in the house.
This is all I know so far. Can anyone please help me.
Regards
Ryan
