hi bob, i'm sure that we must be related. i,ve never known anyone that spelled thier name with an s on the end that wasn't.
the isle that copenhagen denmark is on in latin is sjaellandia,in scandinavian selandia or in english zealand.
the common surname derivitives are zealander, celander, selander or use your imagination.the s on the end would not be a family name as such, but would be plural or possesive and has probably been anglicised, as in the case of my ancester christian selanders my danish contacts say the name may be swedish but is very danish as christian would be more common in denmark.
my swedish contacts say the name is recognizable as swedish and that the name has aristocratic origins in that it denotes land ownership. something that i have not tried is that e-mail addresses are listed with phone numbers in scandinavian phone books.you could talk to the source.
my brother bill ilives in england and goes to sweden sometimes. he is more into the ancestry stuff. i'll put him onto it. MDSjlandia@aol.com
