I’m trying to find any information on Johann Sejak, b. September 28, 1875 in Moravia. He also went by Jan or John. He immigrated from Moravia in 1907, went to Lapeer, Michigan then to St. Louis, Missouri. His wife Teresa (Terezie) Vala made her first trip to the U.S. in 1908. She stayed in St. Louis for at least two years, showing up on the 1910 census in St. Louis. Two of their children were born there. He went back to Moravia returning to the U.S. in 1912 (destination St. Louis). In 1914 Teresa arrived at Ellis Island with all of their children:
Amalia (Molly) Agnes Sejak b. 12 Feb 1901 in Prusanky, Moravia
Jan Sejak b. Abt 1905 in Prusanky, Moravia
Josephina Sejak b. July 1907 in Hungary
Antonie Sejak b. Abt 1910 in St. Louis, Missouri
Marie Sejak b. Abt 1911 in St. Louis, Missouri
Stefanie Sejak b. Abt 1913 in Prusanky, Moravia
They settled in Swartz Creek, Michigan where Johann/John had purchased a farm. The family appears on the 1920 census but not in 1930, except for Molly who was married to a John Hanak at the time. Molly stayed in Michigan, moving to Flint. She married John W. Miller who was a gunsmith in Flint. The rest of her family, as far as I know, moved to Argentina.
I believe that John had two brothers, Frank and Jacob. Frank Sejak b. December 8, 1873, was married to Eva, last name unknown, and lived in Swartz Creek at the same time as John. John and Frank both registered for the WWI Draft on the same day September 12, 1918 in Swartz Creek, Michigan.
Both Frank J. Sejak and Eva F. Sejak are buried in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Gaines Township, Swartz Creek, Michigan. They had three children; Mary, Leopold, and Georgia.
Jacob, b. Abt. 1871, also married a woman named Eva and they had three children; Mary, Josephine, and Francis T.
If anyone has any information on this family please contact me. I’m researching this family for Molly’s Granddaughter.
