Wow! I had no idea there were so many Seibels out there! I am also trying to find out about my family from germany. Here's what my father could remember his grandmother telling him: his great-grandfather Isaac or Isaiah Seibel used to liver in germany somewhere in the wine country. From what I've been able to find out, I think its the southern Rhine area, but I've only been researching for about a week. There was a ferry in the town he lived in. He, Isaac or Isaiah, was in the german army, but left either right after, or soon after, Hitler came to power. About 1936 or around there. When he left, he deserted the army and left everything in germany. His wife had already died, and he took his son John with him. He immigrated to Jersey City, New Jersey with the help of a cousin with the last name Gebhardt (i'm not sure if I spelled that correctly). He remarried, but my father can't remember any of the names of his other children, except I think a Walter, who was his grandfather. I could be wrong on that. My grandfather's name is Warren Seibel and my father's name is Kurt Seibel, both of Jersey City, New Jersey, I believe. I'm going to germany in May and would like to find out as much info as I can while I am there. If anyone can help or give suggestions, please e-mail me at
