Michael Sehi (b. about 1784) was one of at least 10 children of Johann Nikolaus Sehi (b. 1748 in Schauerberg) and Maria Magdalena Wagner. Michael Sehi married Eva Bold in 1811. Records indicate 11 children, all born in Harsberg:
Michael
Katharina (10 Aug 1812)
Anna Maria (5 Sep 1814)
Johann (22 Sep 1816)
Johann Adam (Jan 1821)
Barbara (24 May 1823)
Magdalena (9 Dec 1825)
Maria Eva ( 27 Mar 1826)
Margaretha (7 Jun 1829)
Elisabeth (20 Aug 1833)
Franz (11 Jul 1837)
This thread is concerned with those children of Michael Sehi and Eva Bold who came to America, and their descendants.
Johann Adam (b. 1821) may be the person listed in the 1860 US Census as John D. Sehi living in Williamsburg NY, age 40, occupation butcher, with wife 32-year old Catharine and two children – Catherine Sehi (9 years) and Franklin Sehi (8 months). The same adults are listed in the 1880 Census as Adam and Catherine Sehy with a daughter Mary (16 years). In the original Census record, there is an initial before the name Adam, which might be interpreted as J or I.
Johann Adam Sehi’s sister Barbara (b. 1823) was my great-grandmother, and came to America with their sister Margaretha (b. 1829), landing in New York aboard the Ange Gardien on 17 Jun 1847. Barbara married a prosperous butcher, Anton Herrlein, in Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Brooklyn around 1855. They lived in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn for the rest of their lives. Their daughter Barbara Herrlein (b. 1858) married George Fleck, Jr. in Brooklyn in 1878.
I would welcome inquiries and communications clarifying or adding to information about the American descendents of Michael Sehi and Eva Bold.
Raymond A. Fleck, Jr.
