My paternal grandparents, Jacob Segal and Rebecca Solomon Segal emigrated from Dorohoi and settled in NYC. Previously they had lived in Balti, Moldova (Moldovia), a Romanian enclave of Ukraine just over the border. There was a large Jewish population there in the 19th century.
Their name was spelled Segal but changed to Siegel in America. There were six children: Max, who became a dentist ( and was born in Dorohoi); Sam, a violinist; Morris, anthropologist; Sidney, economist; Harold, who died young; and Kitty.
I would be interested in finding any family connections.
