I am sending this query on behalf of my wife and her Father (aged 93) both of whom were born in Taylor Texas. When asked about his origens my father-in-law states that he is "Moravian" but the language the family spoke was Czech. However, I've noticed in this thread that virtually all Sefciks define themselves as Slovaks.
Can anyone clarify if Sefcik is also a Czech name, or were the "Moravians" actually a branch of the Slovak people? Or were the Moravians a kind of hyphen between the Bohemians and the Slovaks? The family seems to be hazy about all of this. Since my three children are "half Moravian", I'm interested in knowing how to identify their origens..
My father-in-law spells his name Sefcak but most in his family prefer Sefcik and a few pronounce it sef-chik.
Thanks for your expertise and insight.
