John Seccomb and Sally (Lamphere?) Seccomb came to New York from somewhere, maybe Massachusetts?. I believe they appear in New York for the first time in the 1820 Census. According to the 1850 Census John SECCOMB was born in Massachusetts. According to the tombstone, his birth date is 16 Aug 1780. Sally (LAMPHERE?)was born in Pennsylvania. According to the tombstone, her birth date is 22 Oct 1795. I do not know their marriage date. John SECCOMB's will states the names of all his children (I do not know if this is proper birth order):
1)John L. SECCOMB;
2)Erastus W. SECCOMB (He is not listed in the will but is buried right next to John and Sally) b. Cal to 10 March 1821 d. 13Apr 1844;
3) Sally Ann SECCOMB, b. 9 Apr 1822, prob. Cayuga or Onondago County, New York. Md. George L. Follett 9 Oct 1840 in Skaneateles, Cayuga, NY. died 4 May 1902 in Belmont,Dawes, NE. Lived in Rockford, Illinois -- Black Hawk and Buchanan Counties in IA and in Nebraska where she died.
4) Joseph W. SECCOMB, b. 6 Dec 1823? in Cayuga, NY. I know he lived in Rockford, Illinois in later life. I have a letter from him in George L. Follet's Civil War Pension file where Sally is claiming the widow's pension. She has her brother living in Rockford, Illinois, sign a letter stating neither Sally nor George were married prior to 1840. I've recently found a Joseph W. SECCOMB married to a Carolyn
FOOTE (md. 1855?) in the LDS Ancestral File. Is this the right one? He was born in Cayuga, New York. Lists his children as 1)Stella Lodema SECCOMB b. 7 Apr. 1852 Of Sennett, Cayuga, New York; 2)Luella Adelaide SECCOMB, b. 24 Jan 1865 of Sennett, Cayuga, New York; 3)Joseph Charles SECCOMB, b. 19 Jun 1870, of Sennett, Cayuga, New York. If their information matches mine, they could have grown up in Rockford, Winnebago, Illinois.
5) Philo SECCOMB
I have pictures of John SECCOMB, the father, and of Joseph W. SECCOMB and of Sally Ann SECCOMB FOLLETT.
