Seavers from Ireland

My great grandfather, Edward R. Seaver, was born in Ireland in about 1830. He emigrated to New Brunswick, Canada probably in the 1850's where he was married, maybe to a Bridget Haligan this name is uncertain. The family moved to Massachusetts. A U.S. immigration record seems to indicate that he became anaturalized citizen Oct. 12, 1868. I am eager to trace the family back in its history in Ireland.
LaRoy Seaver, Estes Park, CO

Seaver - Foxall

I am trying to establish a link between my ancestors ( Foxalls) and Sir Marmaduke Whitechurch. I have come to a dead end at Joseph Foxall, but have been alerted to possible union between the Seaver family and the Foxalls. A family surname in the Foxall line is 'Powell', and I note that there was a marriage between either Charles Seaver to Mary Powell, or Mary Seaver to Jonathon Powell. I am hoping to find a daughter from this union married to a Foxall, and form the link between the Whitechurch-Foxall families.
I am grasping at straws, but find the 'Powell' name too coincidental. Be pleased to hear anything that might be of assistance.
regards
Powell Foxall

Thank you Kim! Yes i had seen all the Seaver graves in findagrave and wondered why Jacob wasn't next to his wife Esther! I tried searches on that site in other areas with no luck so wondered if he'd died away from home. So that's good news that he may yet still be marked somewhere. I am the 4th greatgranddaughter of Joseph Seaver (Jacob's son) and 3rd greatgranddaughter of Joseph's son Joseph Rial Seaver. Thanks for your information!

Hi Leslie,

In answer to your question, no we have yet to find the burial location of Jacob Seaver and are presuming that he is/was buried on his homestead in Switzerland County, Indiana in about 1824.

In 2010, my husband and I traveled to Switzerland County, Indiana and located Concord Cemetery. It is a beautiful little cemetery. I took photos of the gravestones of Esther Seaver and other family members who are buried there and posted them to FindAGrave.

Since that time, as I got further along in my 'Seaver' research, I found that there were a number of other family members buried there that I didn't know at the time and therefore didn't take pictures of their gravestones. I am hoping to get to make another trip there someday.

I hope this helps. Kim

It sure is! Marion, VA! It is the same guy! My granfather was George W. Seaver III and my uncle is George W. Seaver IV. We still own and operate the Funeral home in Princeton, WV and the other half of us own and operate the one in Marion, VA. Both funeral homes have websites the one in VA has a more detailed family history on it.

Hi and thanks for answering my 10-year-old query. I have the information you gave me about Patience Trescott but am delighted that the query is still out there. Patience Trescott and William Seaver were my 5th great grandparents. They had 11 children, the sixth being my ancestor Jonathan Seaver, b. 20 Dec 1753 in Dorchester, d. June 1820 in Boston. Jonathan married Margaret Harris 28 Oct 1792 in Boston. I'm particularly interested in finding out the ancestry of Margaret Harris. Based on her age 67 at death, she was born abt 1759 and died in Aug 1826. Jonathan Seaver and Margaret Harris had children Margaret, Elizabeth C., Catherine, Charles and Roxanna Seaver. Based on their death ages, Margaret and Elizabeth Seaver were likely twins, b. abt 12 Apr 1795 in Roxbury. They married brothers William Burt and John C. Burt, John and Elizabeth being my 3rd great grandparents. Elizabeth is buried in Provincetown with her second husband, Israel Russell.

Which county(ies) were your Seaver family from in SW Virginia? And truly interesting information about the family funeral home business. Would love to learn more!

There is a W.C. (William C.) Seaver born abt 1824 VA living in Marion, Smyth Co, VA in the 1850-1880 censuses (these are the censuses that I looked at-there are probably more) and he is a cabinetmaker/furniture maker. Would this be your W.C. Seaver?

He was married to an Elizabeth A. (some trees show Pruner as her maiden name). They are the parents of Albert E., Mary F., William C. 'Willie', George W., Myrtle M. and Sallie E. Seaver.

Are any of these names familiar?

The aforementioned William C. Seaver (b. 1824) may be the son of John Seaver and Nancy Riggle. This John Seaver is the son of Henry (Heinrich) Seaver and Elizabeth (Unknown)and the grandson of 'Immigrant' Casper Seaver and Wife (unknown).

I have very little information on the family of John Seaver as my line is through his brother Jacob Seaver and wife Esther Croberger; however, Pat Seaver may have more as she has a truly amazing collection of Seaver information!

Kim
I am directly related to the Seaver family of SW virginia. We own Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton, WV (there is one still in SW Virginia Seaver-Brown FH) It was started by W.C. Seaver in 1844. He used to make wagons, then caskets, then came Seaver & Sons. He is my greatx5 grandfather. I've been looking for more information on the family and keep coming across your information.

I just saw your post from 2004 as I am looking for Charlie Seaver's sisters (Mae and Sadie). Charlie Harvey Seaver was my great-great grandfather. He was the son of Joseph Seaver and Matilda or Martha Rush Frey (of the Dr. Benjamin Rush family). He was born I think in Illinois and raised his children (all daughters)in Missouri and Oklahoma. Don't know if you have any writing on the back of the photo but the timing would be right. His 1st daughter born in 1898ish. I'd like to see the photo to see if it's him- I'd recognize him from the photos i have from my great-grandma.
Thanks, Leslie

Seaver family of SW VA & NE TN--update

I have recently found Henry Seaver, William Seaver, Jacob Seaver and George Crobarger on the Botetourt Co, VA personal property tax lists (PPTL) in the 1790s.

There was a William Severs on the Botetourt Co. 1783-1789, who then disappears. In 1794 William Severs and Henry Severs begin to appear on the lists. Spellings included Seaver, Seavers, Severs, Seevers 1790-1805. William appeared 1794-1805, after which he disappeared. Henry appeared on the lists 1794-1797. Jacob Seevers appeared only one year, 1796, and was enumerated on the same date as George Crowbarger. George Crowbarger was enumerated on the same date as Henry Sever in 1795.

I believe that Jacob Seaver perhaps married Esther Crobarger about 1795 and they all moved to Hawkins Co, TN shortly thereafter. Jacob also bought and sold land in bordering Sullivan Co, TN and eventually settled in the part of Washington Co, VA that became Scott Co, VA in 1814. Washington/Scott Co. VA borders Hawkins Co, TN and Sullivan Co, TN.

William Seaver(s) was married twice. The youngest child by wife #1 (name unknown) was born in 1805. The last year that William Seaver was on the Botetourt Co. PPTL was 1805 (I searched the lists through 1810). In 1809 William Seaver was on the Hawkins Co, TN list. He married Margaret Peggy Cleek/Click there about 1807 or 1808. William Seaver d. about 1814, and a guardian's record for his son, Joseph, links him to Jacob Seaver, who was the security for guardian, Michael Dechard (Deckert) to the tune of $4,400, which must have been a rather substantial sum for that era.

I will be happy to send my transcriptions of the tax lists to anyone who wants them.

Pat

It seems as though Jacob (b. 1814) accompanied five of his children (and their families) from Iowa to Jewell County, Kansas in about 1872...and I have not found any information that Emmaline (the mother) came with them.

I would look forward to sharing information with you.
Kim,
This would be Jacob, son of Jacob and Esther (Croberger) Seaver(s). They moved from Scott Co, VA to Indiana about 1820. Jacob was b. 1773 and d. @1824; thought to be the son of Henry and Elizabeth Seaver(s). I have quite a few land records and other court documents for Jacob in Scott Co, VA. He also bought and sold land in bordering Sullivan Co, TN. Esther's parents lived in Hawkins Co., TN, which borders both Sullivan Co. TN and Scott Co, VA.

My husband is descended from William Se(a)ver(s) @1770-1814, likely a brother of Jacob.

Pat

Hi Randy Seaver,

I may have a Seaver mystery for you. Martha (Mattie) Ellen Seaver was my great great grandmother. She was born on December 6, 1858 in Holden, Massachusetts. Her parents were John W. Seaver and Lucinda (maiden name unknown). Martha married John Lindsey Rowell on February 18th, 1882 in Worcester, MA. The family story is that one of Martha's parents was full-blooded Native American, specifically from the Arapaho tribe. Farfetched, I know, given the current location and history of that particular tribe. Do you have any information about my Seaver ancestors? Thank you for any help you can give me.
