Edward Seaman in Philadelphia, PA area

Hello;

I am looking for information on my great-grandfather and his family. I do not have much to go on so I am hoping that someone will be able to help me or at least point me in a direction that they have found information at. The information I do have:

Edward Franklin Seaman born 05 December 1909 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and died 31 Aug 1960 in Lexington, Kentucky. He was married to Alma Winifred Seaman; nee Wilson; born 19 January 1913 in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania and died 19 September 2000 in Roslyn, Pennsylvania. The two had three children; one female and two males; who are all currently living. Edward's father's name is Irwin Seaman and he had a brother by the name Irwin Seaman as well. This is all the information that I currently have.

If anyone who be able to help, I would be very thankful. I do have access to the cemetery that he is buried at and would be more then happy to take a digital photo of his grave stone.

Thank You;

~ Jenn

Susan Seaman appears, in 1870 in Harrison, Kosciusko County, Indiana (very bad transcription error) with her grandfather John Benedict and his second wife. In 1880 she is living in the next town, Prairie, Indiana, age 18. I am very interested to learn if she married and had a family.

Cornelius Seaman - Missouri

Dear Cathy, My name is Russell Seaman and I have been trying to find ANY information on my great-great grandfather "Cornelius Seaman" who lived, fought and died in MO. Family oral history has him being born in 1825 in Prussia, Germany. The only verifiable info I have found is his (name misspelled as Cornelius Seymon) marriage lisc in 1-25-1854 to a miss Averine Mays in Monroe,County. And a 1856 MO state census listing him only in Audrain Co. Civil War enrollment records, as a union soldier in MO. He had 2 children William Seaman, my great grandfather who had all of his children born in Audrain Co. after a brief 3yr stay in Oklahoma he moved his family to Colorado where he homesteaded and settled in Kit Carson Co. Colorado. Family lore says Cornelius died in 1870 in Monroe Co. MO but I find no record of this. His son John or Frank Seaman was last listed on the 1880 census of his step father, William Coakley. I would be extreemly greatful for any info or direction anyone may provide.
russell.seaman@yahoo.com
She has a son, Lancer Seaman. She was here visiting me at the end of July. We only met a few years ago by fluke, and she is an aunt or cousin. My grandparents were Rhodes Conrad Bell and Anna Maria Remington. Hope you get this post.
Rhoanna

I really don't have any info on Seaman's in the Caribbean but I can say that Capt John Seaman was not a ship's captain but rather his rank was gained from fighting Indians with a militia group. It is very doubtful that he ever traveled beyond New England after arriving there in 1630.

I'm not sure this is the familyyou are seeking but the Seaman-Provoost connection I have is as follows:

Catherine Johannah Provoost, b. Aug 23 1783, daughter of Bishop James Provoost and Anna Bowne, married Benjamin Richard Seaman, b. 15 Jan 1776 in Elizabeth, New Jersey. Their children were Anna Jane (1811), George Cummins Thomas (1817), Richard (1820), James Provoost (1821) and Catherine Maria.

This particular Seaman family I have traces back fo Capt. John Seaman of Long Island through his son Benjamin (1), Benjamin (2), Benjamin (3), Richard (4), and Benjamin Richard (5) who married Catherine Provoost. I don't have anything more about the Provoost family but I have lots more about the Seamans.

After the death of his grandfather, William, in 1814, Jacob operated the tavern in Amity at least until 1822. Since the Amity property was not sold to satisfy the heirs until 1836, Jacob may have rented it from the estate. The name "Vaughn," from his mother's maiden name, was passed down to several descendants and was pronounced "Van" and often so spelled. This fact gave rise to a belief that the family was Dutch or German, as if the name were "Van Seaman" or Von Seaman" but records found subsequently indicate this is an error.

Jacob was married at the age of 16 (Jan. 30, 1807) to Lydia Jones, who was then 28 years old (b. Feb. 7 1778, d. Oct 1869). She is said to have been born in Philadelphia when the Hessians held the city and her father, who had gone for a doctor to attend the birth, was kept in jail by the Hessians, not getting home until after the child was born. Much of the information on this line comes from her Bible. Since both the wife and mother of Jacob had the name Lydia, there seems to have been some confusion of the two women.

Source: Seaman, William Millard, Seaman, Hunt, Wright Genealogy, ([Indianapolis?] 1957, pp. 27-28.

Hello again, Bob, and a Very Merry Christmas.

I am trying to run down my Seaman ancestors (I know my Great Grandmother was Caroline Margaret Seaman, her father was Elijah, and Hew had a son named William Henry. All of them were from Canarsie in the early 1800s. It may be a complete coincidence (the two William Henrys but my WH was born about 1842, so perhaps he was your WH's father/uncle?

What I do know (and perhaps this fits in with your research?) is:

Ancestors of William Henry SEAMAN

Generation No. 1

1. William Henry SEAMAN, born 1842. He was the son of 2. Elijah C. SEAMAN and 3.
Robinson-Seaman Connections???

I have been researching my genealogy. Apparently there had been a complete tree done in the past, but it has since been lost. In it, a significant connection to the Seaman family was made. This may have been a Long Island or New Jersey branch. My research has reached an impasse at my 4th Great Grandfather. Does he sound familiar to anybody?
James Robinson (1744 or 1750-1825) Born in Middlesex County, New Jersey, or New York City. Buried in Edison , NJ in the Piscataway Burial Grounds. Now called St. James Episcopal Church Cemetery.
Married Catherine Provoost or Provost. Daughter of Jonathan Provoost and Adrianna Springsteen of NYC and NJ. This was a wealthy and influential family from NYC.
Children: Jonathan, James Peter Praa, Margaret, Sarah and Aletta.
They lived in NYC, Piscataway (NJ) and New Brunswick (NJ).
James may have been a builder or architect or the son of one, who built Trinity Church and Federal Hall in New York City.
He may have served in the Revolution.
ANYBODY??

Bishop Provoost was a cousin of my Catherine Provoost (a different one than yours). The connection I am looking for and will hopefully find is one which may tell me who James Robinson's parents were. The connection would be between the Robinson and Seaman families. perhaps it was James' siblings that married in, or his Mother that was a seaman. The name may also be something different like Robins or Robertson, etc. I know so little about him that anything is possible. It has been incredibly frustrating not to be able to get beyond him when he was allied with such prominent families!

John George Seaman

I need information on the father of John George Seaman, born on July 25, 1780 in Berks County, Pennsylania and married to Magdalena Kaufman. The History of the
Seaman Family in Pennsylvania, printed in 1911, says that his father was Eberhart Seaman, born July 30, 1752. Recently however I found a historical document on the internet that said his father was Eberhart's brother, John. Is there anyone out there who knows for sure?

Allan,
Thanks for the Christmas greetings, and a Happy New Year as well.
A correction from my original e-mail, John A. was born August 1896.
The only other information that I have and I can't confirm at this time is, William Henry's father was John Allen Seaman, born Dec. 30,1840 and died 1936 in Baldwin, New York.
His mother was Sarah Frances Norman, born Sept. 25, 1854 and died 1920 in Seaford, New York.
I'm sure the records of my family are limited. As the 1900 census of William Henry Seaman indicated they were "illiterate"
Take Care, Bob,
