There is a mention of a SEABORNE within a letter of William FITZHUGH dated 03 Jul 1681 to Mr. Alex BRODY. A transcription of this letter appears within Vol. I, No. 1, of the Virginia Historical Magazine (July 1893) at pages 42-3. Images of this issue are online at OpenLibrary.org / achive.org :

The context of the mention seems to be that SEABORNE was being sued. In the context of ancient suits, what we now refer to as being "served" was then called being "arrested". Thus, within the context of a civil suit in that period, to obtain jurisdiction over a defendant, he would be "arrested" (served) by the local sheriff, etc. It seems that SEABORNE had NOT been "arrested" and therefore the suit couldn't go forward.

SEABORNE is NOT a principal focus of my own research and I do not have the time to fully explore the context of this mention of precisely HOW this William FITZHUGH was commercially related to Mr. SEABORNE. A bit of context about Mr. FITZHUGH appears at the beginning of the sequence of letters at page 17.

But I wanted to call this record to the attention of those who are singularly interested in the early records for this family. If someone gets some better traction or can better identify the underlying SEABORNE described in the letter, I would appreciate the posting of a reply for the benefit of myself and others!
