Tried to e.mail you this but it was bounced as undeliverable. Hope you might check this board again.

Greetings ~ I read with interest your essay on Sebolt and variant spellings. I am descended from a Tobias Seyboth, variously spelled as Saiboth, Syboth, etc., who according to his tombstone, was born 26 Dec 1748 (almost certain in Germany) and died 14 June 1819 in Greensburg, Westm. Co. PA. He had lived for a short time in Somerset County, and earlier in Dauphin Counties and York Counties in Pennsylvania. I have had no luck learning about possible German home-town origins for this fellow, and wonder if you have ever heard of him. His wife was named Christenia (or variant), so when I saw the following reference in your essay, I took notice:

"Others during this period were John Michael Sebald, Jacob Zebalt, Peter Siebold, Christina Friederica Seybot, Carl Friederic Seyboth and Jacob Seybold."

Can you tell me more specifically about the reference to Christina Friederica Seybot?

Also of interest was your mention "Johann Wolfgang Seyboth on the "Minerva", December 12, 1768". I'm wondering if he may have been a relative of my Tobias, perhaps his father, even. Have you come across any other documentation on this Seyboth?

Sorry to trouble you with a long-winded query, but thought it worth a try. Best of luck in your own searches, and thanks for reading.

Sincerely,

Michael
