Where does the Seabaugh name come from? What country or nationality does it derive from? What is our history? I've lived my whole life never knowing, and I'm rather interested. Thanks!

Hi there. We are probably related somehow, however, your Willie Seabaugh and min e were not the same person. My grandmother, Willie Pearl Seabaugh was born in 1882. She had a brother Otis. She married William D Mhoon in 1903 and died in Shreveport in 1926. I just bet we are related somehow. Maybe Willie is a traditional family name. Worth looking into. Jan

David,
Where in the U.S. are your Seabaughs from. I have tons of info on those in South East MO.

To answer your original question, there are histories of Seabaugh/Seabach families in both Germany and the german speaking area of Switzerland.

yea, SE MO!

Hi David,
A gentleman named Otto Seabaugh has done a great deal of research on this family. I seems that Christopher Seabaugh arrived in PA some time before 1750 from Germany.

He has detailed information in a book "Seebach to Seabaugh". Seebach was apparently a German Spelling of Seabaugh.

Christopher's son Christian, after the Revolutionary war about 1783, left Pennsylvania and moved to North Carolina.
Around 1810 He and his family went west to the Upper Louisiana Territory settling in what is now Bollinger County MO. There are hundreds of Seabaughs still there Along with thousand of their blood relatives

If you will contact me at Cliffs@ipa.net
I will be glad to give you more information.

Jan,
I have copied the index from Otto Seabaugh's book "Seebach to Seabaugh", at least all the Seabaugh names. I also have copied many of the pages.
The reason I don't have the book itself is that it is not in print and no one will sell their copy.
Neither Willie Pearl nor Odie T. Seabaugh are listed in the index.
I am sure they are part of the family that Otto didn't find. Unless you know anything about their ancestors I am afraid I can't help.
As for as family history from the book, I can give you much of that. Contact me at cliffs@ipa.net .

Cliff--I read with interest you last note on the message board. If I am correct I believe Christopher could be my 5th Great Grandfather. I knew about this book by Otto Seabaugh, but have never been able to find it. In Lorena Eaker's book "German Speaking People West of the Catawba River N.C. 1750-1800" on page 215 she talks about an Elizabeth Newswanger (prob is Nyswonger in german)Lancaster, Pa Orphans Court impowering Elizabeth to sell her husband Ulrick's property after his death. The book states it is believed that Elizabeth later married a Sebach/Seabaugh (I believe this is Christopher)and had sons Jacob and Christian Seabaugh who were in Lincoln Co, NC; however no actual documented proof. She further addes this: Lincoln Co., NC Deed Book 19, page 292, 17 Apr 1799--Joseph Neuswonger sold 97 A. on South Fork of Catawba to brother Jacob Sebach for love and affecton. Joseph is later found joining George F. Bollinger on their trek to MO. In the NC, Lincoln Co Census this is listed a Jacob Sepah and Christian Sepah who I believe are probably brothers and sons of Chistopher Seabaugh/Sebach and Elizabeth. I have a copy of Jacobs 1804 Will where his name is spelled SEBACH with CHRISTIAN SEBACH witnessing the will. I was wondering if you have any data on this possibility or is Otto Seabaugh mentions this connection in his book. Dick
