My father's family (James Kay Scurlock, father and James Dixie Scurlock g-father) are from the Cherokee county area around Gallatin and Cushion area. After JD's death, his wife, a Cole, left the family fortune to Lon Morris College in Jacksonville TX.

I have checked the Cherokee county cemetaries and discovered a few Scurlock's in the Jarratt Cemetary in NW Cherokee county. Some of the names that date to the 1880's are Rilla Ann, Fonzie, E. Heabor and Ora N. Scurlock. I don't know if or how these folks may be a larger part of the Scurlock family. I have been told (as a child) that the family came from North Carolina.
