Dorcuss and Nichlas Scull

I am trying to find out information on either Dorcuss or Nichlas Scull of New Jersey. They are listed as David N Scull's (Born March 1853) parents on his death certificate but I can't find any information on them.

It is possible that his mother Dorcuss married a Samuel Lee after David was born. I found a Dorcus Scull living with a Daniel N Scull (looks like David N Scull on the census and birth year matches) on the 1860 census.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I was pleased to see your post while passing some time on Ancestry during my lunch hour.
It turns out that my great grand parents were George Ross Scull and Isabel Warren of Irwin, Pa. (George Ross Jr. was my Grandfather) I live in NYC and look out my window at the Empire State Building and the Starrett Building - your ancestor's contribution to the skyline!
The Westmorland book is a treasure. I have an incredibly detailed Scull family tree, starting with Nicholas and ending with my grandfather and his 7 siblings.

This is very interesting, indeed.
My great, great great grandfather was a John Scull (1819-1872) who is recorded in the Census as born in New Jersey, but lived (and married) in Philadelphia from at least 1840. He then lived in Bristol, PA with his 2nd wife. His first wife died in Bristol but was buried in Philadelphia. When this John died in Bristol at the age of 53, the announcement included "The members of Kensington Lodge, No. 11, I.O.O.F., [Odd Fellows] are also invited to attend" (Philadelphia Inquirer). Anyone know about this lodge or what the Sculls' attraction was to this section of town?

I am trying to find more information on my great grandfather David N. Scull. He was born in NJ in 1853 (March). I have been unable to determine who his parents are. I found him on the 1870, 1890 and 1900 census but can not determine his family histroy. He later married Ella B Mason and they had 5 boys - Nicholas, William, Clayton, Martin and Elvy.
David died in 1912 and his obituary said he recently moved back from NJ to Newport News.

My descendants are Sculls who resided in Corpus Christi and also Houston, Texas. I don't know any of them. My father's mother (Virginia Scull) died at childbirth. I've been doing some research and have found that Milton Scull was my great grandfather. His parents were Dora Barefield and Jim Scull. I would love to meet my relatives. If you search on familysearch.org you can find death certificates and all kind of information. Since your last name is Scull, you must have a lot of information. Please contact me at wandamcc@earthlink.net.

Thanks,
Wanda McCarthy

I've just recently started looking into my family history, after my grandmother (the family historian) passed away last year. Before she died she sent my mom an excerpt from the book "History of Westmoreland County" (if anyone knows the author, I'd appreciate it). And with the book I've traced my heritage from Nicholas Scull, who arrived in Philadelphia in Sept. 1686, to his son Nicholas, to his son Jasper, to his son John, John Irwin, George Ross to Isabel Warren Scull, who married Goldwin Starrett, parent of Isabel Warren Starrett, who is my great grandmother.

I'm looking to flesh out the information that I have, and am willing to share the book with others. Thank you!

Hi Chris, I think we are distant cousins. My grandfather Morrell Mathis, 1896-1961 was cousins with Ralph Scull, 1883-1970 of Millville. Their mothers, Anna Stewart Scull and Lizzie Stewart Mathis, were sisters. Census records say Ralph's sons were Floyd, 1906-1999, and Charles, 1908-1989. I don't know anything about your grandfather but I do know quite a bit about the Stewart sisters. You can e-mail me mmg816@yahoo.com Mike

Charley was my grandfather's brother. My grandfather's name was Floyd Scull. Charley liked to make wooden toys- trains, airplane, car, boat, etc. I am told he was also very athletic in his youth. I used to visit Charley when I spent summers with my grandparents growing up as a child.

Was the Charles Scull you are referring to also into woodworking? Millville is a very small town, so I am confident we are talking about the same person.

Please let me know. I am really curious.
Craig Scull
