This is a more beautified version of the name, the name has many variations, and goes back to the name Cranyke which then changes to Crannage and then Scranage. My research suggests that the name Cranyke actually comes from a German name Krannisch. There is also a link to Cheshire, there is a place called Cranage there and Cranage Hall. This was inherited by Thomas Hall esq. In my family history my 3rd great grandparent was Thomas Hall whose daughter was called Elizabeth who married William Scranage/ Crannage. I havent made the exact link there yet, but its very interesting.
