Did you find any Schroer/Schroeder from Gesecke Germany who immigrated to US in about 1843, possibly New Orleans? I am looking for my GGG grandfather, I believe his name was Rudolph, wife Anna and son Joseph?

I have been looking up August Schroer because he was a friend of my great-grandfather, Theodore Schmidt, and it's much easier to trace a Schroer than a Schmidt! They used to travel to Germany together by ship, and for a while apparently had the same address in Cincinnati. As best I can tell, this is the August B. Schroer who was born on February 13, 1868 in Germany and died on November 28, 1944 (Ohio Death Certificate). Ancestry.com has his photo on two posted passports, census records, passenger records. If you have other information, such as photos, please let me know.

Can you tell me what you know about the descendants of Bernard Schroer? He married Frances Bilek, and they had a daughter named Mamie. Whatever happened after that, do you know? Did they change the spelling of their name?

Elisebeth Koester (Langhorst) was my great, great grandmother. She is buried in at Sauers. Henry was her 2nd husband. Henry maried several times and is buried there, too.

I have an ancestor Jasper Foster, born 1828 in Germany. Father Henry Foster, mother Elizabeth Schroer. Jasper migrated to USA in 1849 from port of Rotterdam, living in Souts at the time. Would love to find info on his parents and other ancestors in Germany. Have only his parents names (were listed on a marriage record for Jasper's 3rd marriage), and know that he had 2 brother's surving him at his death, per obit. Would love any guidance or info you may have on more info on my family. Julie Hart

Although my post concerned the Schroer/Schroeder family in Oldenburg, I also have Schroer/Schroeder family members from Ibbenbueren, Mettingen and the Bauerschafter around Recke in Westphalia in my data.

I just saw this message. Yes, Schroer is definitely a dialectical variant of Schroeder. The form Schroeder (Schröder, Schraeder, Schräder) is a Low German name found throughout Northern Germany (and now throughout the rest of Germany because of people moving around). The form Schroer (Schröer, Schraer, Schräer) appears to have developed in at least a portion of the Westphalian dialect area.

In my researches in the Brochterbeck / Ibbenbüren area in northwestern Westphalia, I can find the same individuals appearing in the Church records with either form of the name. One trend I notice is that for those within the city of Ibbenbüren, the spelling with -d- predominates, while for those in the countryside (the Bauerschaften) and in the village of Brochterbeck, the spelling without -d- is more common. This may be a distinction between an urban dialect where a more mainstream form of Low German is used, and a rural dialect where a more localized form is used.

I note that by the mid-1800s there appears to be much less likelihood that the same individuals will be recorded both with and without the -d-, even as they move in or out of the city. Also I don't see any evidence that this variation was practiced in the US. (The variation of -oe- and -ae- in these names, however, seems to be somewhat common into the early 1900s even in the US.)

(I tried to set the Classification of this message appropriately, but I don't find anything for generic surname information and "other" is not appearing, so since the original query had to do with a marriage record, I chose that.)

Is Schroer a variant of the surname Schroeder? I am trying to reconcile a marriage entry, from Saint Andreas church in Cloppenburg, Oldenburg, which gives the bride's surname as Schroeder with a baptismal entry, a couple years later from the same church, that gives the mother's name as Schroer.

My Grandmother was Helen Schroer Bauer - I think she was born in or around the St. Louis, MO area around 1896. She passed away and is buried in St. Louis in 1937 - she had two sisters - Catherine and Anna. Her mother's name was Margaret Schroer and I think she may have been born in Germany. Don't have any other details but if any of you have found any of the above names in any searches I would greatly appreciate your comments.

They were born in Germany, then moved to Cincinnati.
Their son, Henry was born in Cincinnati and then move
to Jackson Co. IN, just south of Seymour. He married
Elizabeth Langhorst, from Brownstown, IN.

I'm new at this Geneology thing...but I'm getting hooked.

Do you have this lady in your line? I am under the impression that her surname was Kennedy. She married Daniel Huber and subsequently married a Schroer. I have found an affadavit requesting a Civil War pension for the children of Nancy Ellen Schroer and Daniel Huber. The date on the affadavit was Sept. 1870. I assume that Daniel had died and she had remarried a Schroer.

John Schroer came to Chicago in 1851 from Liebnau, Germany. He was father to Mrs. Agnes Roth, Mrs. Mary Bister (or Dister), and sons Joseph, Mathias and Bernard and 30 grand-children and great grandchildren, all living in Chicago at the time of his death in 1910 at age 91 and 11 months.
