I am related to Cathryn Halpin whom you are e-mailing. Our mothers were sisters, Ruth and Blanche Schmittling. Our grandparents were Frank and Ida Schmittling. Our side of the Schmittling family here is very large. I know mother had about eight brothers and sisters. Our grandfathers' side of the family came from the Alcase-Lorraine area of France. Cathryn Halpin has a lot of information on this side. I too have very little time to check my e-mail so I do not respond as readily as I should. I hope to correspond with you again about the possible family ties.

I don't check this mail too often but I'll try and get some more info. Perhaps we can connect your parents/grandparents. to mine.

Several years ago I was emailing a Schmittling in Washington state. I can't remember her first name.

Here in Southern Illinois the Schmittling family is rather large. Both sides of my family are from Allsace.

They have a family reunion here every September - second Sunday I believe.

How unusual that our names are spelled the same. I NEVER run across that. At any rate, my grandmother was Ruth Schmittling, Blanche's sister. In fact, I'm pretty sure I have some photographs of Blanche. Ruth married O.O. Shearburn, and they moved to Sterling, (where I'm from). I've been able to trace the Schmittlings back into France (Alsace-Lorraine), and even have Civil War information on Blanche and Ruth's grandfather, Nicolas Schmittling. I'll send you a report detailing what I have. I would love to hear what you know about the family, and would also like to share photos. Great to hear from you!

Frank and Ida Schmittling were my grandparents. Which one of they children are you related to? Blanche was my mother. I am the second youngest of 11 children, so I only know the older girls' versions of family history. I would love to learn facts.

My grandmother was a Schmittling. Born in Belleville, then moved to Wood River and Alton area, finally to Sterling IL. Parents were Frank and Ida. Have the Schmittlings traced back through both US Civil War and into Alsace-Lorraine. Would like to share information with other Schimttling researchers.
