Sorry this is such a great time lapse between your post and my response. However, I was only able to get my DNA analyzed via 23andme.com in mid 2014 that put me in touch with 2nd cousins who include some Schmidts

Gustaf Schmidt was the name of the older brother of my maternal grandfather Kryzsztof Schmidt who was born in Oct 1968. My grandfather was born in Plotz Poland. He had three older sisters, then his older brother Gustaf. I am not sure we are talking about the same Gustaf Schmidt. There is a Wilhelmina Schmidt who was one of Grandfather Kryzstof Schmidt's older sisters. Dates however do not match.
