Harmon William Schmidt, born in Fairfield County, Connecticut Mar 5, 1886, died in Portland, Oregon May 1, 1971. His wife (second one) was Mildred P. (Faley) Todd, born Minnesota Feb 13, 1897, died Jul 12, 1973 in Portland, Oregon. They married in Clark County, Washington State Mar 26, 1931. The 1940 US census for Washington State shows they have a 9 year old daughter named Lois, in the obituaries of Harmon and Mildred Schmidt their daughter's married name is seen to be Lois H. Hagensen.

Harmon W. Schmidt is of particular interest to me because he was first married to Lucille M. Simmel in Fairfield County, Connecticut sometime in the 1910s. Harmon and first wife Lucy are together in the 1920 US census for New Canaan, CT. living with Lucy's parents, John & Barbara Simmel. Harmon was an electrician for the railroad.

For reasons untold, Harmon abandoned Lucy some time in the 1920s, never divorced her and reappeared on the other side of the continent in Washington State and then Oregon as an electrician for a power company. Lucy, went to her grave (in 1969) unaware of his second marriage and of the belief that she was still married to him.

Edit: In the Washington State gov records, Clark County there is a Lois H. Schmidt born 1931 who marries a Carrel Prince in 1950 and then marries a Hagensen in 1957. I thought for sure that this Lois must have been Harmon and Mildred Schmidt's daughter but I see that someone in Geni.com, while they recognize that their Lois H. was born a SCHMIDT, has her as the daughter of a Jesse L. and Dagmar BEASLEY with a brother named Carl Swedeholm. Do I have the wrong Lois, do they have the wrong Lois or was she an adoptee?
